yes, but live with it.. not worth the change unless u done it when u got the ride new.

the cost involved is more then just the tender price of new plate. conversion cost involved.

Hi,

You can bid the number you want in the next coming series for minimum $1,001.

Once you get it, you'll have to pay $300+ to replace the current one you have.

Actually I do not need a special/lucky number.

I am just considering a new number for myself and am ok with any of the newly assigned numbers by the system. Will it be cheaper since it will be minus the minimum $1001?

If it's a few hundred I am ok with doing it. Just in case the previous car plate got summons/fines outstanding, abit kiasu/kiasi and don't want to be hassled by it later... [;)]

Just get the car first. Then go to LTA to apply number retention for the old number. This service is for the purpose of using existing number on a new car. When you do a number retention, a new random number will be assign to your car. Let the retained (old) number lapse. Cost is just $100. If I were you, I'll just ask the dealer to throw in a new random number for free.

It's not a loophole really. Anyone can retain the number on your existing car. LTA is more than happy to collect the $100 and give you a new number. All the used car with new numbers went through this process when the previous owner retain their number.

If I remember correctly, the retention last 6 months. You can use the retained number to register a new car within the 6 months. If you want to use it on a used car, just pay the balance of $1200. Beyond 6 months, you can pay $100 every half yearly to keep the number alive. If you stop paying, the retention will lapse.

Oh ... if like that .... if I'm not wrong ... only need to pay them $300+ ... for new number.

Problem is now no dealer in the picture as this is a direct seller/buyer deal. So stuff like these no one can help me lor.. [:)]

Are you able to guide me through?

My understanding from you is that

1)To complete form R03 and to select option C.

2)I don't think I will need to fill form R06?

I should submit this R03 after I finish with the car transfer paper work?

Thanks

Number retained is valid for 12 months from date of de-registration of old vehicle.

Can extend up to 2 times for 6 months per extension at a cost of $1,020 + GST per extension.

To my understanding, neither form is applicable.

R03 is used when you sell/de-reg'd your car and you want to retain the number to be used on your new car or another car you currently own.

R06 is used when you have bidded for a new number OR retained a number (from a car you have sold/de-reg'd) and want to replace the number of another car you currently own with it.

The only way to get a system assigned number for a used car is IF the previous owner retained it's number.

However, the previous owner will have to pay $1,300 if he retains the number and yet doesn't register a new car with it within 14 days.

R03 Option C is not applicable because the car the previous owner is selling will not be de-registered (otherwise you would'nt be able to buy it, would you?).

So if the previous owner will be registering a new car, you can try asking him to retain the number to use on his new car (pay LTA $100),

else try asking him to retain the number to use on his other car (pay LTA $1,300),

else pay him $1,300 to retain the number and let it lapse,

else you pay $1,000 to bid for a number plus $321 to use the bidded number to replace the existing one.

Thanks for your detailed info! Very much appreciated. [thumbsup]

In the end, it seems that I will not be able to get a new car no for $100 because the owner will not buying a new car as he is selling off his car because he has been posted overseas. [bigcry]

Read the form R03 again. I think you are very right.

The hole has been plugged with the new form R03 dated Feb 2008. [sweatdrop]
