Miles 4th Gear May 8, 2008 Share May 8, 2008 EV71 is the most serious HFMD virus. There are many strains,.. HFMD is generally not serious. Its just like the normal flu, but the child usually recovers faster (5 to 7 days max). But HFMD is very very contagious. that's why it spreads so fast so easily. But seeing the deadly situation in China, i think it is either, 1. Not HFMD (but something else) but reported to the world as HFMD to cover up 2. A mutated strain of HFMD that's more deadly than EV71 3. lack of medical attention which caused the lives of those deceased children. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chongster 6th Gear May 8, 2008 Share May 8, 2008 serious for children, although most children here will survive coz healthcare system different. not trying to make everything an FT issue, but the thing is globalization also bring about globalization of virus as people travel more. so our kids would not have resistance to new strains of virus from china or elsewhere. likewise, if we bring some virus to other countries, it can spark off serious epidemic... there was a theory that this caused the extinction of dinosaurs!
