Hypersonic

Never drive a turbo car before, you asked the wrong person.. [:p]

But I beleive modern days turbo should be much more relaible. It should last much longer than 5yrs. Just looking at those conti brand. Almost all volvo model are turbo, VW group engine (1.4TSI, 1.8T, 2.0TFSI) is also turbo, 4 clinder MB engine are also turbo..

Turbocharged

its dependent on usage lah.. drive hard all the time, your turbo will spin more, it'll contribute more wear/tear to the fins.

but u drive like that, other components like gears also get wear our faster, just like any other car..

Turbocharged

u definitely won't get good FC with turbos..

there are 2 types, high and low pressure turbos.. if i'm not wrong, the superb is lpt.. FC shuold be better than the hpt one.

just to share.. my (unmodded) lgt is getting about 6-7km/l, 80% city driving..

Neutral Newbie

Actually 4Cyl MB Engines are not Turbo.

They're Kompressor engines - Supercharged.

SC, not TC. Belt driven, not Gas driven. :)

Hrrr...they say the turbocharger needs to be replace after 5 yrs, regardless of the milage.

Is that true ? [sweatdrop]

"They" must not know what they're talking about.

It's called talking out of your a**.

Haha... too much misinformation around.

Most stock turbos are designed to last well within the parameters of regular driving.

i.e. drive it for 10 years w/o too much worry.

Of course, a TC is a wear & tear part like any other part of the car.

BUT no such thing as a guaranteed 5 years must replace.

Same can be said for the transmission, timing belts, shocks etc...
