For me, it is the Civic 8th Generation.

As far as Honda brand is concerned, Civic FD is the current bread and butter car at least in local context. My personal take is still the Honda Legend. I hope to own one eventually [:)].

flagship Noun

1. a ship aboard which the commander of a fleet is quartered

2. the most important ship belonging to a shipping company

3. the most modern or impressive product or asset of an organization

Hmmmz.. Most modern -> New Jazz? Most impressive -> NSX lorz.

Flagship can be based on your interpretation.

But, look at Mercedes or BMW. It is clear that their flagship model is the S Class or 7 Series and not the most impressive model of perhaps SL or 6 series. In other words, based on this interpretation with most car manufacturers, the Legend should be the flagship model of Honda.

it's cheap if it's going to be term as flagship..

if only they badge it acura.. but then, it's another lexus-toyota issue again

All car manufacturers are sure to have some flagship model be it a cheap or expensive brand to represent and associate itself to the public.

I think most of you have got the definition of 'flagship' wrong. Usually the flagship model is not the best selling model of the brand as such models are mostly the top of the range and most technologically advanced model.

New technology created by the car manufacturer would most likely be launched in the flagship model and then subsequently transferred to the 'bread and butter' models which are packaged and priced reasonably for the average joe.

To name a few:

Proton: Perdana

Hyundai: Azera

Volkswagen: Phaeton (not golf for sure)

Audi: A8

Toyota: Crown (may differ in various markets due to model availability)

Volvo: S80

Saab: 9-5

not really.. some, like GM, put it on their bread and butter to rough it out while the higher, aka more expensive model get the good old fashion engine and gearbox..

Somehow I just knew will see you here [flowerface][flowerface][flowerface]

I'll second the Civic 8th Gen as well [nod][nod][nod] There is nothing I don't like about the car. Even though it's not a cheap car for the range, but it's the most popular.

And my wife & her ah-lian friends like it too... it's becoming an ah-lian taxi.. [;)]

1. In Automative, Wikipedia said: "The term flagship is also used to describe the top or main vehicle manufactured by automotive marque. These vehicles are usually, but not always, the most expensive, prestigious and largest vehicles in the line-up.

While the flagship is always the most prestigious vehicle in a company's line-up, it may not always be the most expensive, or the largest. The Lincoln Town Car, for example, while considered the flagship of the Lincoln division, ranges roughly $6,000 below the Navigator in price. In the case of Cadillac the DTS flagship sedan is not only priced roughly $11,000 below the Escalade but it is also smaller, in terms of overall length and width, than the Escalade ESV.

However, the term is most often applied to sedans and usually only those manufactured luxury automobile marques.".

2. To me, Civic is still a cheaper sedan. It is still a low priced car by International standard. Only in Asia countries like Singapore, people will say it is a premuim Japanese compact and etc. It is certainly not prestigious enough to be considered as a flagship car of Honda.

That is right. Same for Mercedes or BMW for instance, which I mentioned earlier.

As for the Civic, I strongly believe Civic will never make it as Honda's flagship model given its status as a 'bread and butter' and compact sedan. Not condemning Civic as a car because I also share many of your views as one of the best in its class.

Do a search on the net, 'flagship model of honda'. So far I have never seen any car reviews or reports stating Civic as the flagship model. The Legend would be the main model as of now. As for NSX, perhaps it was the flagship model previously.
