Speed limit for expressways should be reviewed

THINK it is time for the Land Transport Authority to review the speed limit on our expressways and increase it to 110kmh.

The present 90kmh is just too slow on our roads, which are better lit and in better condition than those in neighbouring countries.

I totally agree with Street Talk columnist Reggie J (The New Paper, 2 Oct) that the LTA should do more to educate our drivers on road manners and cultivate good driving habits.

I have come across stalled cars and trucks left on the road without any signal to indicate their presence.

I have also come across accident vehicles in the middle of the road without their hazard lights on, or any other warning to approaching motorists.

And less dangerous perhaps, but no less annoying: how some drivers block left-turning lanes by waiting too far behind other cars at junctions.

My suggestion is that the LTA should engage Jack Neo to do a short film to educate the public.

[nod][nod] [thumbsup]

your suggestion will definately improve the traffic flow the potential losses that may incure to them if too many road speed icrease above 45km/hr... [dizzy][dizzy][dizzy][dizzy]

I think LTA should raise the speed limit of ALL vehicles to be the same.

Lorries should also be at 90km/hr.

This way.....the speed difference is negated and a smooth flow is easier to maintain as impatient drivers will not cut-in-cut-out just because loarries are blocking their lane at 70km/hr on the expressway.

The sort of phantom traffic jam(very common on singapore road) will be reduced when all vehicles are travelling at more or less the same speed limit.

Actually the last time i went to HK the speed limit there was 110km/h? I dont know if it was a highway or an expressway once you hit the road just outside the airport. But 110km/h, i feel is a decent increment as drivers whole arent confident to be in lane 1 can stay in lane 2 or 3. Otherwise lane 1 can be for anyone. An additional 20km/h shouldnt be too much to ask for aint it?

That would be the North Lantau Highway coming out of the airport, it has the highest speed limit in HK at 110km/h. Most other highways in the New Territories including those I take on an almost daily basis have a speed limit of 100km/h. Those on HK Island itself however have a speed limit of 80km/h. Most highways and faster roads in HK are 70, 80, 100 and in one case 110, no 90 for some reason!

Lane discipline in HK is somewhat better, though, at least from my years of commuting by public transport and several months of owning a car. Especially on those faster highways. But on Sundays and public holidays there are lots more "sunday drivers" who hog the right-most lanes and are less courteous and more blur in general.

Speed limits for lorries to be 90kph? You wont want a prime mover or 12 footer behind you to be not able to brake in time when you brake suddenly do you?

I rather they stick to the left lanes..

some company pay on per trip run.. and to those workers, a dollar earned is a dollar earned...

again, easy for people like us to type "sorry boss" behind a monitor.. but not in the real working environment. [:/]

====================

So either they r paid too little per trip or they r too greedy & want to just keep making more $.

I do say sorry boss but some situations r beyond our control.

If a person is so afraid of his boss, something must b wrong with that person. Guilty conscience or inferiority complex maybe? [dizzy]

[sly] unless i get a lobang for 2nd hand [inlove] VW toruage v10 5L engine [inlove][sly]

======================

I wait abt 8 years till my Optra COE expire & see if it becomes cheaper to own a diesel like the VW Tiguan turbodiesel or something similar maybe.

There wil b many diesel choices by then if the gharmen falls to pressure from the big German diesel makers to make diesels more accessible as they r cleaner than petrol vehicles.

Well I've been on the ground & above it so I guess I do know but it's just I dont humiliate myself to become like a prostitute just to earn a few bucks more.

I do a job which I feel is what I can do, for the amount I am comfortable with.

It's just many pple r greedy & want to earn more & more irrespective of the cost to their health or pride.

The Elites just love this kind of pple who wil sell their soul for a few dollars more. Same as the Devil. He too prefers this type cos it's so easy to control & manipulate them with some $$$.

Guess the time you are on the ground, the working environment is not as high pressure as today and that you have the choice...

for the lowly paid commoners of today, they can no longer chose coz there's plenty of FT that can do their job for a lower rate.

So between health vs no means to seek medical care and pride vs bring home the bacon, i guess the typical s'porean have no choice

So who bring this on to the pple? Who allow cheap FTs in to compete salary with Sporeans?

Who make it that the typical Sporean has no choice? WHO?

My frens working in Aust. Damm relax. Good life with good pay. Fair mix of work & family life.

Even got pple in many other countries tell me working life here sucks compared to many other developed countries. They wonder why we just dont vote out the present gharmen & put a better gharmen in.

i think should be more affordable

but these type of pickups are really not economical compared to 1.6 cars, everything about the same price

I surf thru sgcarmart & the most affordable ones r in the 40k region with most of them register between 05 & 06.
