Impatient Skoda Octavia tries to overtake and gets pit manouevred
Fadevfast posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
This reminded me of when I was young and addicted to the Asphalt racing games. Remember how you’d boost with nitro and ram into the side of your opponent to prevent them from getting past you? This one is like that, but with less cool cars. What happened? On 5 May 2023, a Skoda Octavia on the ECP Expressway tried to overtake a camcar and ended up getting pit manouevred, causing it to hit the railing. The Skoda was initially keeping a safe distance behind the camcar, moving left to enter another lane. To the Skoda’s credit they used their signals for this move. However, when trying to overtake the camcar, the Skoda misjudged its speed and turned in too early, with the back end of the car still within reach of the camcar. We can’t see if the Skoda turned on its turn signal in the footage. If it did, some blame can be shifted to the camcar for not slowing down for it. But looking at the footage, we can also see the Skoda took no time to check if it cleared the camcar and went for the overtake very quickly. So regardless if the camcar made a mistake, the majority of the blame is still squarely on the Skoda. Fortunately the accident does not seem severe, as the Skoda got away with some minor damage to it’s exterior. Online chatter Some netizens seem to think that the camcar sped up in the footage, and that they were hogging the lane. Others just blame the skoda for being impatient and overtaking. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. It is reasonable if 3-ton / 5-ton has speed limit of 50KM/H on expressways. But when you see GP cars or Jeeps crawling at 50KM/H at lane 3, especially near highway exits or entrances you will cringe when there is a long queue.

Hi bros, you guys ever encounter these drivers who seem to have great difficulties trying to filter into the Xpressways? It is like they hesitate until everyone behind them get held up. I will always try to avoid getting behind P-platers and most of all, vans and lorries. They are very likely jam up the entry of those behind them. Hesitate, hesitate until the lane gets clogged up. . . Never see them adjust to the Xpressway speed before they try to join in. Lame drivers indeed.

THINK it is time for the Land Transport Authority to review the speed limit on our expressways and increase it to 110kmh. The present 90kmh is just too slow on our roads, which are better lit and in better condition than those in neighbouring countries. I totally agree with Street Talk columnist Reggie J (The New Paper, 2 Oct) that the LTA should do more to educate our drivers on road manners and cultivate good driving habits. I have come across stalled cars and trucks left on the road without any signal to indicate their presence. I have also come across accident vehicles in the middle of the road without their hazard lights on, or any other warning to approaching motorists. And less dangerous perhaps, but no less annoying: how some drivers block left-turning lanes by waiting too far behind other cars at junctions. My suggestion is that the LTA should engage Jack Neo to do a short film to educate the public. [nod]

THE Land Transport Authority on Friday said traffic marshals will ply all expressways in Singapore from July 1 to keep them smooth-flowing and help clear road incidents speedily. These marshals first came to the scene last October and were deployed to clear traffic holdups on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE), Central Expressway (CTE) and Fort Canning Tunnel. They have since been zipping around in their Piaggio scooters or Subara Imprezas, helping to clear incidents, such as breakdowns and accidents, that impede traffic flow. Singapore has about 160km of expressways. Each week, there are 250 to 300 incidents on these heavily used roads. With these marshals, the LTA expects to clear 75 per cent of expressway incidents within 12 minutes of arriving at the scene. They will complement existing expressway management systems like the Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (Emas) and towing services to bring traffic flow back to normal as fast as possible. These Auxiliary Police Officers are empowered to perform traffic control duties as well as preserve evidence at accident scenes. The officers are also trained in first aid, and are authorised to take down the particulars of errant motorists and pass them on to the Traffic Police. Linked to Certis Cisco's satellite-tracking system, these officers will be deployed once expressway cameras spot an incident. They are expected to arrive at the scene within eight to 15 minutes. This operation will be extended to KPE Phase 2 when it opens to traffic on Sept 20. "The initiative is part of LTA's continual efforts to optimise the road network and ensure smooth traffic flow. LTA will continue to work with the Traffic Police to manage incidents that affect the traffic," said LTA.

This morning while driving on ECP at 80km/h (traffic was not very clear, not road hogging hor) and I drove through a rather deep puddle of water which was in my centre lane. The car jerked and slowed suddenly, like kena some huge impact which gave me a fright. Think my car will skid on a bend if I depress my brakes. Will these kind of jerkings harm the car in anyway?

Hi Assuming it's 4 lanes or more on expressways eg PIE, can 1. goods vehicles/lorries/buses/etc 2. Motorcycles travel on the extreme right lane? Also assuming there are not overtaking and no exit lane on the right (like the Bukit Timah exit at PIE towards Tuas). I'd noticed of late these vehicles been travelling on the extreme right lane and the irritating part is that some of them are hogging it . Anyone noticed that? Or am I having PMS

As much as we are pretty familiar with ours, I would and I think some of you might want to get familiar with Malaysia's expressways. As you know they do have names like NSE (or NSH to us), NKVE or something. I found this list and hope it is useful to you all. It is through this that I have also found out that Malaysia's expressways are managed by different companies which explains why each of them charges different tolls. E1/E2 North-South Expressway (PLUS) E3 Linkedua - Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing E5 KESAS - Shah Alam Expressway E6 North-South Expressway Central Link (NSCEL) E7 Lebuhraya Cheras E8 Lebuhraya Kuala Lumpur - Karak E9 Besraya Highway E10 New Pantai Expressway E11 Lebuhraya Damansara - Puchong (LDP) E12 Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) E15 Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim E16 KL Elevated Expressway E18 Kajang Dispersal Link E20 KLIA Dedicated Expressway E21 Lebuhraya Kajang - Seremban E22 East Coast Expressway E23 Lebuhraya SPRINT - West KL Traffic Dispersal System E25 Assam Jawa - Templer Park Highway E26 South Klang Valley Expressway E27 Lebuhraya Timur - Barat E28 West Coast Expressway E29 Lebuhraya Seremban - Port Dickson As for maps. I have no idea which one links to which. PLUS will only show their expressways, different companies will show only their expressways but they don't really show you who links to who. They tell you but don't show you. BTW, the link is here: http://www.kiat.net/malaysia/links.html So maybe if someone can draw some maps or something.
