Kxbc Turbocharged November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 I have been sometimes bitten and scratched by my cats, usually when I force them to do something against their will eg clip claws, clean ears, bath time. I just wash the wound/scratch with Dettol soap. No issue with infection. Just have some scratches here and there that's all. But good that you went to the doctor for peace of mind. Actually the kitten just want to play but their play style is a bit of a riot as they do not know how to control their bite force. If they bite another cat/kitten with the same force, there is usually no damage to the skin (unlike yours) since their fur offer a certain level of protection. If the kitten continues to play-bite, you need to teach it not to. Everytime it attempts to bite or scratch you, give it a very firm "No". Re-emphasize your authority by pushing down its head lightly with 2 fingers with another firm "No". This mimics the action of a mother cat disciplining her kittens. It works except that some kittens have very short memory and will forget it very soon. Depends on the character of the kitten. But as long as you do it persistently, they will learn that it is undesirable behavior. I use this method on all my cats when they were young. They learn pretty fast because it is hardwired into their genetic code. Btw, the kitten is very cute. If you can, can you capture it and send it to the vet for neutering when it is approx 6 months old? That will prevent more stray cats being borned. I can check out with CWS which vets offer discounted neutering for community cats. I am willing to pay for the neutering if required. Drop me a PM when that time comes. Boyboy 1st Gear November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 eh must discipline mah. or rather, i see it as a form of training. but not sure abt whether cats can take physical punishment. cos they might just disown the owner . i know dogs can be caned like little kids, though it's definitely not the only method to train them. my dad didn't spare the rod. i think it's a good policy be it pet or kid. of course, force must be reasonable. Deathism Neutral Newbie November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 (edited) i bathe my cat and clip her nails without problems..during her bath she might meow a lil here and there..clippin her nails..she'll juz lie down and wait.. but when it comes to cleaning her ears..dear god..she has really strong legs..i was huggin her very firmly to hold her still, while my sis put her eardrops..she kicked herself outta my arms and i flinched a few steps back..beneath my t-shirt, i got deep scratches on my chest.. from then on, i used her towel to wrap her firmly..but she'll SOMEHOW manage to leap out of it.. btw, my cat is a crossbreed of a norwegian forest cat and a ragdoll. but she retained most if not all of the norwegian forest cat traits..not much ragdoll traits. Nemesuave Neutral Newbie November 19, 2008 Share November 19, 2008 I like cats too and they brought back fond memories of my cats, when I had them. Had many good moments with them. Always try to play with cats when I sees one and with some time on my hand. Their playful actions and expressions are like stress relief therapy for me. Always bring a smile. KingDrift Neutral Newbie November 19, 2008 Share November 19, 2008 Is it dangerous???Thks! Yes very dangerous. Potentially you may have gotten infected by Pasteurella multocida, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas sp, and Streptococcus sp. P. multocida, the root cause of pasteurellosis, is especially prominent in cat bite infections. Other infectious diseases from animal bites include cat-scratch disease,Toxoplasmosis, tetanus and rabies

Cheesoonjuan Neutral Newbie November 19, 2008 Share November 19, 2008 It's true. The amount of pathogens in the mouth of felines are sufficent to cause severe infection. The minimal is to get a tetanus jab. Good luck to you.
Kxbc Turbocharged November 19, 2008 Share November 19, 2008 cannot place physical punishment on cats as it does not work though i sometimes smack them on their hind legs when they get very very naughty. training works very well for most cats. My mantra is persistent, patient and consistent when it comes to training them. ↡ Advertisement
