Ironstarz 1st Gear January 23, 2009 Share January 23, 2009 (edited) This is purely just for discussion after i had a converstation with my friend who almost knocked down a teenage boy as he dashed across the road while on the phone. We were talking about govt penalizing driver who used hp while driving, would it be possible one day that the govt introduce a law to ban people from using the phone when crossing the road ? This would reduce people getting into accident due to being too absorbed in the phone converstation Pls share your view Edited January 23, 2009 by Ironstarz ↡ Advertisement

Where does this ban stop? HP? what about PSP? What about reading a book? What about talking to friends and not concentrating whilst crossing the road? If I am not wrong, I think there is some law against jaywalking. I think education is still the way to go and pedesterian just have to be more aware of the dangers. The easiest way out is to fine.. that's why Singapore is a 'fine' city. It is also very sad to know that we are far from being a 'gracious' society in the sense that these padestrain should be more 'automatic' and 'aware' especially when crossing the road so as not to cause / to be involved in any accident. It would be a very sad day for Singapore if we have to enact laws to regulate the behaviour of padestrian when crossing roads.

Koren Clutched January 23, 2009 Share January 23, 2009 How bout this.. it'd be great if law says that anyone injures or dies on the road that is not a stipulated pedestrian crossing, the driver will not be penalized. + Victim's life insurance should pay up vehicle damages.. Ironstarz 1st Gear January 24, 2009 Author Share January 24, 2009 Seems like its a mixed mixed feeling, education sounds like a plan as well, how about an half hour presentation by TP in school, maybe showing some clips of different scenarios, maybe it may bring up the awarness of this growing problem. This sound good, its same as saying cross at your own risk, but what if the victim does not have life insurance, maybe it be gotten off at no charges against the driver? Ironstarz 1st Gear January 24, 2009 Author Share January 24, 2009 Happened to me last week. Returning home and turning left. Bunch of three school girls about 16 years old messing with their phones not thinking about traffic at all. I saw them, thought they'd carry on walking into the road so was ready for them. When they were out in the road by 2/3 paces I blasted my horn for a couple of seconds. Gave the three a shock but they really had no idea what they had done wrong. Two just giggled. Third just looked ... what?????????? Mind you we Singies always have this stoopid look on our faces when caught out. Anyway I really hope they thought about what they did and it will stop them doing something silly in future. This is really mostly i encountered just run away without even looking back, 16years old shd be matured enough to think , and yet still behave like this

Xefera 6th Gear January 24, 2009 Share January 24, 2009 tough lah deh. rather than depending on govt to pass such a law, might as well horn before turning into a corner or near pedestrian crossing to be on the safe side
