Watwheels Supersonic February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 Of coz it will happen anywhere, personally i also got hit by a lorry that couldn't brake at CTE exiting upper serangoon a couple of years ago resulting in chain collision (5vehicles) As usual, that exit is always jammed pack and we were all stationary, waiting to move bit by bit, I happen to be the last car and while checking my rear view mirror , i saw a green lorry coming behind me pretty fast and it just rammed into my car..... luckily it's peak hour else i dunno how serious it would get... There's a leepot by asiaone on CTE accidents caused by speeding young drivers and taxis. Putting the brakes on pile-ups
Daryl76 Neutral Newbie February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 Definitely understand truck drivers want to earn more but not to put other road users safety at risk. If can only run 4 trips per day with that kind of "restricted" speed to different locations, so be it. Squeeze 1 more trip to get eztra money but may not be able to use it, is it worth it? haha tats why i quit.. just not worth it at all personal experience, from pasir panjang unladen to tuas load up, back to pasir panjang.. 2 hrs journey, i took 12hrs to complete the 6 trips needed for the day.. from ard 9am to 9pm, lunch is just packet rice and eat while driving.. totally shacked out!! Beng2 5th Gear February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 y b bothered to know will this happen in CTE n KPE? this type of accident can happen on any roads and this is a speeding accident!!! heavy vehicles drivers, please be kind enough to observe your speed limit to save lives. Bro, An accident that occurs in such tunnels is very dangerous because: i) may catch fire - people can get trapped inside, happened before in other countries. ii) may have an explosion: each car carries at least 20 litres of petrol, lorries even more diesel. Even if the other cars are not involved in the accident, they will not be able to be driven away from the site: if the fire spreads, it will spread like wild fire. iii) the tunnel is a confined space. If the ventilation system cannot cope, people will suffocate. iv) if the crash is very bad, chances are the emergency response vehicles cannot reach the location fast enough to rescue people or put out fire. v) even if the crash is not very bad, the gridlocked tunnel will hamper rescue efforts, with ambulances/fire engines stuck at the tunnel entrance. That is why I always switch on my head lights and tune to local radio station when entering a tunnel
Renegade777 5th Gear February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 u think they will install a device??? our TP is becoming more lenient n like "ku niang" liao. we use to hv speed warning light on top of LCV when speed limit was 50km/h. heavy vehicles were 40km/h at most 50km/h. then wat now??? LCV can go as high as 70kn/h. look at the way the kangeroo vans are running on the expressways, faster than passenger cars!!! its like going 10 steps beackwards!!! Spot on man. Nowadays, can see many good vehicles either hogging the lanes or driving faster then cars. Also, alot of accidents involving them too and I am wondering what our road enforcers are doing. They are really thinking out of the box by increasing their speed limits and not booking these drivers. Just now went to buy 4D at Tampines and saw a motorbike banged by a big lorry. Dunno how the poor fellow doing and he is lying flat on the grass patch with civil defence people attending to him. Hope he is okay.
Darkblue 1st Gear February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 I think the authorities have to play a part too... ALOT of concrete mixers and SBS/TIBS buses are driving with botak tires, I have yet to see any actions taken against them...
Sony 1st Gear February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 actually this will happen anywhere on the road, not just in tunnels like our KPE, so whether its 70 or 90 in the KPE tunnel wont make any differences!!! the most important thing here is, why are the traffic police not catching those heavy vehicles that are speeding? jus drive along AYE and u will know that most of the heavy vehicles flood 2nd, 3rd and 4th lanes, leaving only 1st lane on the right for cars. sometimes they also travel into 1st lane!!!! where are the traffice police??? or simply, they just closed 2 eyes on this??? just look at the speed the lorries are going. do something before this type of accident happen n it will b too late to feel remorseful by then. the truck driver should be hanged!!!!! not just jail good question.. I'm also looking for an answer.. esp when they rise the limit to 70km/h for good vehicle, those goodies drivers that like to drive at 80/90km/h at the middle lane have shifted to overtaking lane, so those of us that like to move fast got to do criss cross to get fast.. sigh.. Achtung 6th Gear February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 Just the other day, I encountered a Truck (with container) racing a Tour Coach and they were cutting left and right. I was 100 kmh on the outer right lane and they zoomed past me. Crazy ar*eholes. Our TP have been catching alot of these reckless trunk drivers. But they are everywhere. These trunks are so heavy that most accidents caused by them will likely to be fatal. I remember reading a news sometime back about a family of 3 died on the spot after a trunk rammed into the rear of their car which had already stopped for a while at the traffic light junction. It was zero fault of the family car. Apparently the truck driver was sleepy and his carelessness killed the whole family. Didn't follow what the sentence of the trunk driver and hope that it was severe enough to match his heinous act. I guess there may be some speed limiter or similar device to prevent them from stepping on. Hope that one day TP will require them to install a device to cut off their speed at 40Km/hr
Seevic Neutral Newbie February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 Just the other day, I encountered a Truck (with container) racing a Tour Coach and they were cutting left and right. Recently back from a KL trip. Took the premium coach from Grasslands.. I appreciate that the driver took us there in the quickest posible time but not the manner he did it. Knn.. many times he was driving even faster than the NSHW cars, even driving on the road shoulder at one point...squeezing side by side with other tour buses.. wat the fcuk. Ltcy Clutched February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 (edited) Just to share an incident just now at about 1am along CTE, towards SLE direction. I was on the most right lane, just past the AMK Ave 1 exit. I was driving at approximately 80km/hr as the traffic was quite heavy. From my rear view mirror, I could see a blue lorry zip zap through the traffic at a very fast speed. Within moment, he was at my tail. He was so close to me that I couldn't even see his headlights. A lorry, on the most right lane, was tailgating me!!! Upon driving passing AMK Ave 5, when the traffic was clearer, I stepped up my speed to get away from him. I drove up to 120km/hr and then filtered to the center lane and then slowed down to 100km/hr. Within a min, this lorry started to appear in my rear view mirror and started to tailgate me on the centre lane again!!! Oh my god.... I didn't even offended him, neither did I want to race with him. But he was pushing me all the way. I sped up and filtered to the most left lane and then slowed down back to 90-100km/hr. Hoping to let him know that I didn't wish to race. This bloody lorry driver sped up and started to tailgate me on the most left lane too!!! I had no choice but to "escape" from him. In the end, I sped up to 140km/hr to get him off my ass and filtered into the TPE exit. Edited February 21, 2009 by Ltcy
Darkblue 1st Gear February 21, 2009 Share February 21, 2009 I have a question If someone keep tailgating and chasing you... is it ok to travel on the left lane of the expressway at 40km/h ?

Ltcy Clutched February 22, 2009 Share February 22, 2009 I have a question If someone keep tailgating and chasing you... is it ok to travel on the left lane of the expressway at 40km/h ? I guess it's ok if I slowed down to 40km/hr on the left lane. But my concern was that it's a lorry. If I was to brake for whatever reason, the lorry will definitely not be able to brake in time. In the end, I would be the one losing out. So, the best option for me at that time was to run fast fast away from that lorry. ↡ Advertisement
