HDB Repair & Upgrading

My area is undergoing some repair and upgrading work. This reno work left me thinking.

 

1) Why the need to re-do the wall and floor tile when it is still perfectly ok? I have never seen any cracked tile or town council being called up to repair pop-up tile.

 

2) Is such work being carried out to make the place looks better or worse?

 

 

I find the old scheme to be better...at least everything matches. Unlike the newly done up scheme which looks like it was done with a lack of budget/in bad taste; smart suit with slippers.

Same thing with my parent's estate.

 

They tore down the perfectly fine old garden, and rebuilt it as .... a garden.

They could have use the money to build lifts that stop at every level.

Agree. I feel it would be better for them to channel the money to area that really needed repair/upgrading.

 

I just understand why they cannot just stick to a similar scheme even if they have to waste their money do such thing. Why act smart by having a different scheme?

 

The worse thing is that I was told by the Town Council that the RC was consulted and given them the green light to proceed. Why didn't the RC put up the various scheme on the notice board for the resident at large to comment? Who give them the authority to decide for the rest of the resident? We did not vote them into power via AGM, etc..unlike in private estate?

The old lift looks fresher,the upgraded one looks...distasteful,color looks so old.

Even some aunties, uncles and ah beng said the same. New scheme doesn't match the lift and the yellow floor tile accent in front of every unit.

shd write in your town council bro...my side also...supposed to do lift upgrading but since Aug'08, i thk the whole project seem to have stopped...the walking area below my block constantly fenced up...wonder if its due to the failed investments....

some town coucil now adays really cmi.. the one at my area is one good example...the lights at the MSCP always got problem and some of the decks and stairs are not lighted at night. Called them three times in three months still happening every month.

 

somemore when i called them up they dun even know who is looking after the MSCP ...sigh

I wrote to them...but they told me the design is done by their consultant and was approved by the RC....almost completely didn't answer my questions. So RC is now a representative of all the residents and can make major decision for them? I didn't know that before this episode.

RC is headed by some 'eat full nothing to do" pple and is deemed representative of all residents. So question "Were the residents being consulted?" is raised, the answer is yes.

As Tourdefrance said, this is to create job opportunities and boosting the country's economy... Sometimes I do agree the rebuilt sucks more then the previous one, but wtd...

because it is a proven good channel income, imagine a old flat / estate with eg. 80% of the household fully paid up for house loan, what's that to charge?

RC is headed by some 'eat full nothing to do" pple and is deemed representative of all residents. So question "Were the residents being consulted?" is raised, the answer is yes.

Every day I learn new thing. I honestly question the legitimacy of such arrangement. Unlike condo committee...they have AGM to vote people in, etc...but who vote for the RC members? I tot they are just grassroots members....organizing activity for the residents, etc..

I don't mind they do the renovation and I understand the part about them may have to use up the $$. But they should improve on the quality of the tiles, quality of the ambient, etc...not make it uglier thus downgrading the quality of the ambient.

Early last year, fence up the place. Then nothing happen (at around this time the primary school rebuild project nearby started demolishing the old building).

Few months later, some guys came and dug one hole and nothing happened for another few months again.

Few months later, some guys came again to pour cement into the hole...then, u guessed it... project stopped again.

Recently, they start to work very fast...come everyday. But i think they will be stopping work again soon cos i see fewer and fewer workers everyday.

 

Now the primary school already build till 5th level. I don't know what those lift upgrade people are doing... build 1 lift slower than other people build a whole building???

 

But i'm holding my fire right now. Cos they did mention that the lift upgrade will take 2 years. Let's wait and see.

most likely contractor problem... my place also in the midst of upgrading.. i think contractor changed one already...

 

anyway they go by phase... so super slow...... all block finish phase 1 then move to phase 2
