Stock or semi-flow muffler?

I'm caught in this situation of deciding whether to change my stock muffler to an aftermarket semi-flow.

I drive usually in the low-end(believing its 2000 - 3200 rpm, or am i wrong?), changed to a 4-2-1(thermal wrapped) and hi-flow cat(original cat comes together w/ headers, no choice).

I would like to seek you guys' advices in helping me choose if I should go semi-flow over the stock muffler. I ain't liking loudness so advise me if semi-flows are loud-hailers. [sweatdrop]

loudness is subjective.

since you have already changed your header, why don't go the full works with a muffler as well. make full use of your 4-2-1 header.

LTA approved mufflers are generally not too loud. 98dB max.

I would love an approved one, but none is approved for my ride as yet. So here i am contemplating..

I'm the less attracted to bassy/low tone exhaust sound. I know loudness is subjective per se, i'm looking at performance over any other aspects.

Thanks for the info mate!

Btw, as a manual ride, should I keep my midpipe and go for a semi-flow muffler or stay stock? I just want everyday street driving enhanced.

semi flow are only slightly louder then stock at idle but roars above 3k rpm.

using a semi flow would impose less back pressure, more so at high end.

i believe you wont lose much using stock muffler with your current setup, since you drive at low end more often.

i think operating stock exo will be able to improve performance and the loudness and type of sound can be made in accordance with ur preference.. just tell the mech wat u wan..i've a friend who operate his aftermarket approved exo and he says his car feels smoother through out the rpm range and when cruising the speed able to maintain longer without stepping on accelerator.. best thing.. his car 4-2-1 change mid pipe and rally kind of exo with no cat.. damn loud.. after operating sound very much muffled...

Hi 'Gimmegimmes', since you have changed to a 4-2-1(thermal wrapped) and hi-flow cat, your torque at low rev will definitely drop as lots of air is suck in but good at mid and high rev. If you will to change only the stock muffler to aftermarket performance ones, your torque at low rev will drop even further.

If you want high torque at low, mid and high rev, it's better to replace the stock semi-flow exhaust pipe between the front to the muffler to straight one and use a muffler with straight pipe inside. You can get a muffler that is not loud.

You will feel a great difference in your car performance after doing the above.

bad & weird advise. do u know e make, model, displacement, transmission, personal driving habit of this car & driver?

not every car can benefit from a more free flow exhaust set-up & frankly all those local big boys exhaust wkshops do not really have e expertise
