Icekitten Clutched April 12, 2009 Share April 12, 2009 How high was the water level? Was exhaust pipe totally submerged in water or only partially? Water level has to be pretty high to submerge the pipe right? It would be helpful for the rest of us to know under what kind of circumstances can such a thing happen. ↡ Advertisement
Yeobh 4th Gear April 12, 2009 Share April 12, 2009 From the photos, it looks like the water is suck into the engine either via air intake duct or exhaust pipe. The water level may have only reaches the lower portion of the engine block. Looks at the other components mounted around the engine, they are all in pretty good shape. Cjgoh Neutral Newbie April 19, 2009 Share April 19, 2009 How come so many motorists in SG still doesn't learn??? Singapore to recent date has become ULTRA Flood Prone. My Perosnal Motoring Policy now is; if it's pouring, and the journey isn't purely via expressways, I don't drive. So, if it is RAINING HEAVILY don't drive. If you are already on the road, find a place to hang out. It's cheaper than pressing on and end up submerged and a hefty bill pending.

Garlic 1st Gear April 19, 2009 Author Share April 19, 2009 rebuilding the engine? check the gearbox also Yep, rebuilding the engine, was lucky water did not enter cabin. Insurance is paying after some negotiations, they sent their own surveyor down three times to ensure vehicle has not been modified, sabotaged or neglected. Surveyor requested entire engine to be stripped down and repairs are estimated at around 3K, the sensors will also be replaced. Dropped by workshop yesterday, new conrods and piston rings were being fitted. Block, throttle body, manifold and other parts have also been cleaned. Repairs are being done at a trusted workshop, boss with over 40yrs of experience is doing the job and according to him, engine will be "like new" after rebuild. Its a second car which has been fully paid, just performed a major servicing in January. Car is less than 3yrs old and depreciation is ridiculous, do not want to start clearing loans again. Yeobh 4th Gear April 20, 2009 Share April 20, 2009 Hope yr mech do carryout good honing excercise on all the cylinder bores to get the right swirl patterns so that engine oil will have the chance to form a thin protective walls between the piston and the cylinder. Hardly ever come across workshops in Spore having such honing tools, most just restore to using emery cloth to remove the dirts, rust and carbon. ↡ Advertisement
