agree the next insurance premium will be damn high, now he is considering a kia forte or a second hand car.

as for engaging scrap yard companies to help find the car in malysia using their connection, personally i very much doubt it's viability. because first you have to pay them well inorder for them to try to find it, and if in the end cannot, the few thousand of dollars will be wasted. the chance of finding it will very minute as the syndicate prbobably will change the chasis number, car body colour etc . Even if they manage to find it, how are they going to get it back ? by paying the ransom or how ? the police there are not known to be reliable as we know.

always lock steering wheel....

err, how many of us actually lock our steering wheel ? i was told that car thieves even use tow truck to tow the whole car, and passerby may think that it is the repo company at work. so it is difficult to spot a car theft going on.

(edited)

someone told me that in malaysia, these syndicates actually have received an order for a particular make and model of car, then they will go hunt for it here in singapore then bring back to deliver the order, donno true or not. in other words, they dont anyhow go to steal any car.

A close relative of mine, he owns a 1 year 1 month old Honda Civic Type R. After renewing his insurance with a new insurance company for one month, just very recently, he woke up to find his car gone from the open air HDB car park. Yes, gone like that. It was later confirmed that the car was sotlen and driven to malaysia, as he had left a credit card in his car, and the credit card company called him to say that someone tried to max out his card but exceeded the limit.

Till today, he has no news of the car. Now he has to continue to pay instalment, and owing to his job's demand, he has to rent/buy another car. Goodness me, this can happen to anyone ! What shocks me is that as car owners, there is really very little we can do to thwart such theft if and when ours is being targeted. I would like to listen to suggestions on how can this be prevented, or how can the car be ever retrieved back ?

Pity your relative [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

This type is really a Heng Suay thingy [:(]

I hope insurance company would process the payout soon cos he still need to pay installments for his outstanding loan [dead]

not sure if there is any relevance when u mentioned:

1. car is 1 year 1 month old

2. renewed insurance for one month

but weird is why he is continuing paying installments cos i assume insurance will take over the case already? i mean u stated confirmed stolen rite nor car status still in limbo.

Found a car in my MSCP with windows down and owner no where in sight. Called NPP to inform them. Came back from my movies 4hrs later and its closed. Hopefully nothing lost in between.

Guess for your case nobody noticed nor informed the police eh?

Maybe a syndicate in S'pore steal CTR. All matters are the engine, brembo brakes, seats, rims, suspension etc....the body can cut to pieces and throw.

just because it is stolen does not mean you can continue not to pay your installment, if not anyone who can't pay their installment will just report it as stolen.

Only once the police investigation has ended with a conculsion and the insurance make the payout then he can stop paying but if the payout is not enough, the owner will still have to top up with a lump sum. Installments will be nego on a case by case basis.

Just last year, the Malaysian authority caught 2 Singaporean who are mastermind of car theft in JB. Like what I've said last time, Singaporean stealing away from Singaporean [sweatdrop].
