Trying to be cheeky here but I guess all future Hummer postings will have be posted in "China Talk" section? [:p] [:p]

Hummer to be sold to Chinese firm

General Motors is to sell its Hummer brand to China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery for an undisclosed amount.

It is part of GM's plan to reinvent itself by concentrating on fewer brands following Monday's bankruptcy filing.

GM says it hopes the deal will save about 3,000 jobs in the US. Hummer will remain based in the US.

Tengzhong specialises in making equipment for the road, construction and energy industries.

It is based in China's Sichuan province.

It will be interesting to see if the Chinese military will start using Hummers as their standard military transport?

And does that mean that next time the US Army need parts for their Humvees, they must go through China?? [shocked]

China's Hummer = Cummer

Coz the chinese is going to convert it to run on Coal instead is it? Hence they replace the "H" with "C" and rename as Cummer... [laugh][laugh]

does that mean there'll be mic hummer anytime soon as made in usa is quite expensive compared to mic ..... [rolleyes]

and maybe hummers will be cheaper soon. [thumbsup] hmmm... i trust that Hummer will ensure the standards and QC are still enforced when ported from GM. Like when chang'an motors had a joined collaboration with Suzuki to produce Altos and later with Ford to produce Focus, Fiesta and Mondeos.

I once asked a cab driver 1year+ back if he was going to change to the chrysler cabs. he said that asians may think its good and classy but americans do not like it was under GM and as at that time GM was already on the decline and was valueless.

think about it, at least GM didn't let the Hummer brand die. And FYI GM's Hummer does not supply parts to US military. read today's newpaper for a very brief history of hummer. or just google.

The Hummer is an icon in so many ways, let's hope the chinese maintain the brand's integrity like and not b------dize it with cheap rip-offs!

Seeing how Lotus, though Malaysian owned, is still going strong and producing great cars. Lambo too was once owned by the Indonesians...

I've never really thought that the Chrysler 300C was classy, it is like a mainstream car in America and I always see the 300 used as normal cabs in Las Vegas. It is kinda ironic that the 300 is meant for tourists who want to travel in luxury when the tourists from North America will probably think that it is like a cheap taxi (compared to Mercedes) to use. Chrysler is owned by Chrysler, the first American automobile company to go bankrupt this year. GM owns brands like Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, Buick, GMC etc.

so what do u suggest?

mercedes/bmw are used widely in europe as taxi

volvo/saab cabs are seen widely in sweden

we'r left with bentley, RR, maserati for taxis?

300C does give the impression of being classy, bearing close resemblance to bentley, at a much reduced cost.

i feel that was a good move by the taxi companies.

In fact, both wayne rooney and rio ferdinand, being mega celebrities, chose that as their chauffeured car.....
