Myfocus Neutral Newbie December 10, 2005 Share December 10, 2005 Most of the after market sellers will cater to the majority models. If you're the minority, tough luck! Focus owners will know this only too well :-) Also, the larger the PCD (and also the wheel diameter), it will tend to 5 bolts rather than 4 bolt pattern. I'll dodge the question on acceptable offset difference. It's difficult to quantify a yes/no answer since the offset is just one component in a "system". One can only give general relationships. The increase in wear and tear will vary from car to car, depending on stock vs modded eg, a car with a heavier tyre/wheel combo will cause more wear and tear on the suspension (for a given decrease in offset ie tyre+wheel centre of mass moving outwards). Ultimately, you will have to make the decision :-) whether the change in performance is justified by the shorter component lifespan. Eg. If you intend to change your dampers say, every year, then the question of decreased damper lifespan is moot. R u doing a +1 or +2 conversion? Jin1976 Neutral Newbie December 25, 2005 Share December 25, 2005 Better technology = more expensive wheels. Wheels that are more durable usually uses high quality material and involve very expensive process of manufacturing. This will give you high quality wheels in terms of weight, strength and finish. There are some good example of these wheels ie. Volk Racing, Works, Enkei and others. Three piece wheels are usually the heaviest but still lighter if you compare to a cheaper brand wheel. Three piece wheel consist of the spokes, outer rim and inner rim. This is probably a good combination as it allow you to modify the width fo the rim without having to buy new one. You can just order either inner or outer rim to go wider. If any of this parts is damaged they can be replaced separately. BBS LM wheel is an example of this. Two piece consist of spokes and one piece rim. One piece is the lightest because it is only one piece. I would advise you to go for a reputable brand. Cheaper brand tend to crack easilly and they are heavy. Its up to you to choose depending on your need and how deep your pocket is.
Www05 Neutral Newbie December 28, 2005 Share December 28, 2005 I got recommendation from a friend for taiwanese rims. He mentioned that they're relatively cheap and quite lightweight too. But are they prone to damages like bending or surface pitting? I'm considering whether should I spend a little more on Euro brands but times are bad Anyone tried Taiwanese rims? Comments and recommendations pls. yah...taiwan rims bent easier than those jap or euro rims... but in singapore roads,i think its still acceptable...not many holes on the roads... but if u r using low profile tyres,i think better get those good rims... ================================================================================ = I am not a fan for Taiwan Rims, nor an expert. But to be fair, we should not judge the taiwan rims too harshly. All rims comes with a specification on loading and should be tested. As long as your ride is lighter than the specification, you should be fine. Typically, the Euro rims have higher load ratings (maybe because european cars are heavier ??). So perhaps, even without looking at the load specs, you probably will not exceed it. One thing for sure, with competition from these non-euro/Japanese rims, the overall price and quality of the rims in the market have improve ! So do support them if it fits your needs. Cheers !
