No surprise as all the mega-churches have a very high proportion of youth. And don't understand estimate the power of peer pressure among young people. To top it off, even the senior pastor dyes his hair to blend in with them. Expect to see a pope with a pony-tail soon. Donut Supercharged August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 please remember that Science is created by man... and we all know that man is not a perfect creature. we make mistakes all the time. so how can we be so sure that Science is not flaw?? how do we know that Evolution of Ape to Man is not flaw? until today, Science cant even have a complete study on Electricity. How does Electricity affect our bodies? And how we can be so sure that earth was really created 2500000 billion years ago???? based on wat???? based on some group of scientists in the past who came up with some theory to calculate our Earth's age??? and where are these scientists now???? they are all dead, right??? and who can verify their claim??? its crazy to believe everything Science says...... u look at all the inventions we have now...... which invention is a perfect thing that doesn't have flaws or side effects??? all inventions by man have flaws, and this includes Science. look at all our medications we created? which one is a perfect one without side effects? Our lives should be based on both Science and Faith. Science is something we can rely on for tangible things. and Faith is wat we reply on intangible things. Look at Science with a pinch of salt. can believe up to a certain extent. and the rest will rely on Faith
InTheSky Neutral Newbie August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 I think this is a touchy topic, trying to gel both Science with Religion. I'm not exactly religious/spiritual, but whether 'God' exists or not remains to be 'seen'. Having said this, I do note that we each are put or born into a situation much to our very own predefined destiny in relation to our Blood Line. On the whole in cutting this whole thing short in my opinion, is that the ENTIRE human race, is predestined for extinction - however intelligent, poweful, knowledgable we may be as a dominant species. IN fact, our friggin Solar System is ticking on its own stopwatch towards an eventual deadline. So in essence, just simply make hay while the sun still shines... Our sun is a G2 star which shine for ard 10billion years. Its currently ard 5-5.2 billion yrs old... haha.. so dun have to worry in ur lifetime. U can read on astronomy textbook.. they can explain this very well. Btw all life needs carbon to form.. and carbon in the universe is created in the core of a star by first fusing hydrogen into helium.. then fusing helium into carbon... then into oxygen.. all the way into iron.. which they cannot fuse anymore... then they will explode.. typically a supernova.. One more qn: the no of stars n planets that comes with it is more than the no of sand grains on earth... so do u think u r alone in the universe? Thug Clutched August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 I don't think all religion teaches good. i'm sure you know history of violence in religion. or don't you? Those violence are pple who mis-use religions and using them as excuse to fulfill one own's ambitious. We are living in one such era. In fact, its always happening. Chrispie 5th Gear August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 I am not against any religion. But it does amuse me to some extent when my christian colleagues resort everything to praying, and that they always wait for 'signs' from God to help them make various important decisions. There is a case where a colleague wanna leave, and he asked God for a sign the following day. The next day, there is no Sign.. so he rationalize it as, no Sign means God is ok with whateve he wants to do... For me, i am a buddhist.. very half hearted one. I only believe in myself, and if there is something that I want, I go get it. Life is a ladder. It is easier to climb than to pray. My personal 2 cts. Tkseah Turbocharged August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 Religion is always a sensitive topic and will probably end up offending many.. Science is not absolute, it is limited by what we understand at the current point in time.. As time goes by we may discover more and the science may change along the way.. Things which we accept as absolute scientific truth now may be refuted later on by new discoveries.. There are still things which cannot be explained by science, but that does not necessarily means that they are not true.. Personally, i do not see belief in God (most religion) as a bad thing as it gives hope and direction to those who believe, and in general it does direct believers towards good. What is scary are those claiming to be 'speaking' for God and the followers who believe in them. So let those who believe continue to believe and those who don't continue not to.. no need to argue and try to convince each other to change their mind.. Cjgoh Neutral Newbie August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 I very good point there, I agree. I see a lot of prayerful people in church, but once church is over, all that holiness is gone when leaving the carpark.. if you know what I mean... I am not against any religion. But it does amuse me to some extent when my christian colleagues resort everything to praying, and that they always wait for 'signs' from God to help them make various important decisions. Chrispie 5th Gear August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 I do not mean the praying during Mass or service itself.. but their daily personal conversations with God. But if the praying gives them strength and courage, not a bad thing. Whatever works!
Hermitage 1st Gear August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 please remember that Science is created by man... how do we know that Evolution of Ape to Man is not flaw? And how we can be so sure that earth was really created 2500000 billion years ago???? based on wat???? Our lives should be based on both Science and Faith. Science is something we can rely on for tangible things. and Faith is wat we reply on intangible things. Look at Science with a pinch of salt. can believe up to a certain extent. and the rest will rely on Faith Mate, will attempt to answer some of your questions. Yes, science was created by man, but do you think the bible, the tantric, the koran etc. just fell out of the sky?? Hell no! These were written by man as well, and thus are far from any measure of absolute truth Darwin's Theory of Evolution may have some loopholes in it's design, but is the most widely accepted theory in the scientific community. Can you actually believe version in the scriptures?? Our home planet Earth, was formed out when a giant cloud of gas & dust coalesced to form our star the sun, and it's armada of planets. This happened 5 billion years ago when a nearby supernova ionised the gas cloud and caused it to collaspe. Earth itself is 4.5 billion years old based on carbon dating comparisons between earth's rocks, moon rocks, and bits of rock from asteriods/comets which are basically left over material from the formation of the planets in our solar system. ALL of these rocks are exactly the same age! That's how we know how old the Earth is. Like a bro here kindly pointed out, all the heavier elements in our universe were created by supernovi (exploding stars). The calcium in our bones, the iron & zinc in our blood, the carbon & silicon in our flesh...ALL CAME FROM EXPLODING STARS!!! We are essentially made of STARS! Or star-stuff, as astronomer Carl Sagan so cleverly put it. But I do agree with you that Science and Religion should not be at loggerheads. Science & Faith should work hand in hand in our lives. If you read my earlier post, I believe that everything that we don't quite understand now, can and will be explained by science eventually. However, I also believe that science will be able to explain these things ONLY when god allows it, or when god feels that we are ready for such knowledge... Ixat 1st Gear August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 Hey mate, sorry to have caused offense It's just that as Christians, we don't need to think about whether or not food has been tainted or blessed by other gods, it doesn't matter. The religion only states that we cannot bow down to or worship other deities, sez nothing about the food though . Btw, which movie should I click on in the link you posted?? There are several and which is part 1? I really wanna watch it, looks very interesting! Also, there are no absolutes in Christianity. In fact, the Christian faith is full of contradictions, not the least of which is Creation Theory! However, I still believe that there is someone watching over me. And that He/She loves me and is good to me . Very simplistic Yes, but nonetheless, it's the way I feel. Shall post another bit about how science is disproving the existance of god at every turn... Hi bro, would like to check with you. Does Christianity states specifically that here is no other god/deities/higher form from other religion other than from within Christianity? I have people knocking on my door, see my altar table, my family is Buddhist, and says that we are praying to nothing but porcelain and wood and is detrimental to the soul. Got me confused there. So was wondering is it the believer's interpretation or does Christianity really teaches one to believe that there is no other god other than God? No offense to any religion. Just curious. Silver_blade Turbocharged August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 (edited) It is true that in Christianity...there is only one God. But those who knocked on your door and say such things are also very insensitive and very rude.
