What's wrong with my wireless connection?

Sounds like the wireless signal is out of range. If your Speedtouch modem/router is too old, suggest to purchase a Wireless N modem router to replace it. Wireless N has longer coverage distance compared with G. May be you can try the Dlink DL2740 which is ADSL modem + router.

That spot could also be a blind spot. Hence it works some time and not others

Not IT savvy......need help!

My 2 year old built-in modem/router failed, went to buy replacement.

At home discovered that I bought only the wireless router only-no modem.

Should I get another modem to match this router or better to buy the 2-in-1

type. Cost wise which more economical. usage wise which more effective.

[bigcry] pls. help.

Thks in advance!

Just get a normal w/o wireless modem and make use of the wireless router you already bought. It's ok. Price wise for adding the 2 together is about the same as buying the one which has a built-in modem.

Suggest to check your old modem/router, may be it is just the power adaptor faulty. Since you have purchased a new router, one way can try is to configure your present modem/router as "Bridge" in the WAN protocol section. The new router configures it as "DHCP Client". It may work without buying any new modem.

for my speedtouch network, the signal strength most of the time is very good, sometimes is excellent, and rarely good and low when my laptop is upstairs and modem downstairs. so i dont know if its the signal strength weak. cos once i brought the laptop downstairs and place beside the wireless modem and tried to connect wirelessly, also cannot find the network. LOL.
