Hi all,

is wind down car window, make FC higher?

or is there a tips, better wind down front or rear, to make less wind stuck inside the car(something like bad aerodynamic)

thanks for any reply?

Some guy claim to drive the car with window wind up all the way to KL or Genting on 1 tank, 'cos less air resistance and more streamline. It makes sense to me. <_<

FC-wise, sunroof would be a better alternative, if u have.

<80km/h wind down

>80km/h wind up

cause your car will have the parachute effect trapping all the air.

but my car don't have. i also looking good place to install sun roof, but don't know the place.

anyone can recommend?

Window down sure beats air-conditioning in fuel consumption.

U muz be kidding rite.

On the contary, u will get worse fc if say u are travelling >80km/h or more...

Yes agree. That's why when Taylor (the fuel economy champion) drove the Subaru Impreza to Genting or KL (can't rmb), he kept his speed at constant 70km/h. At this speed, he can afford to wind down the window.

if FC is your main concern, wind down ONLY 1 SIDE your window (eg driver side only) and drive at the slowest speed (top gear) possible. by doing that, air drag will be minimal. studies shows that if you wind down both side of the window, the air drag will be greater....

if you wanna go further, wind down only 1/3 of the window of either 1 side of the window... that will reduce the air drag further...

For extreme driver who wanna minimise the air drag, drive with your air vent turn to fresh air, without aircon or fan on. minimal fresh air will go into the car..... but if u die inside the car, dont blame anyone... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

From MythBuster

REVISITED: Running a car with air conditioning on is more fuel efficient than running with the windows down. (From Episode 22)

PARTLY CONFIRMED

The fundamental flaw in the MythBusters

i feel that its more of the air con compared to the window. but if u wind down window fully and u travel at a high speeds .. say above 90km/h, i think the drag will affect yr fc

so if u really really want to improve FC, u should off aircon, do not speed, and wind down the window a bit

winding down your windows will not have big effect before 50km/hr, but it has an effect surely, as it increases the air drag. Best is wind up windows and drive with aircon off...

Aircon compressor is driven by belt, thats y saps away engine power, reducing FC.

In fact, maybe it will be interesting for me to share what the hardcore guys at those US EcoMod forums do:

1. Take out aircon system entirely... Save at least 20kg + better engine efficiency

2. Take out alternator. (belt driven, same reason as aircon,), use solar panels to charge ur battery, or bring more batteries.

3. Instead of CAI, do WAI. Deliberately direct air intake to hot engine area. Theory is that warmer air burn less fuel.

4. Take out everything potruding from the car body like side mirrors, antennas, roof racks, etc to reduce air drag

5. sport rim change to pizza pan smooth covers (look at civic hybrid rims..), block your radiator holes to reduce drag + increase temperature for WAI.

6. Make custom bottom cover for entire undercarraige to reduce air drag, + your exhaust will be warmer resulting in higher efficiency. Prius have that i think..

7, Engine cut off button. For use at traffic lights. Prius has it as default. When the prius stop, it bcomes deathly silent bcos engine also shut off.

8. change your final drive gear to longer 1, that allows u to have lower rpm during cruising.

9. Eco driving techniques.. (No, not the normal change gear at low rpm only)

they also got incredibly high FCs... Prius highest I saw is 32km/L, many non hybrids are far far more than 20km/L

Anybody crazy enough to be pioneer of SG ecomodding ? haha
