I've been a fan of Jaguar since young but my dad cannot afford that big cc car and can only settle with 1.3 or 1.6 Japanese/Korean cars in the 80s. So I hope to buy one (only one i can afford is X-Type on a little stretch but should be fine if i start saving for the downpayment) to ferry my parents around. Actually they have a car to but under utlitlise at only 500km per month. I am not a Mercedes / BMW fan, and Audi is not cheap too. I also find X-Type quite fierce is get a big set of rims but I will settle with whatever i have if it comes with the car (if i really buy in the next 2 years).

Bro, lookin at tis reply, I respect u for being so filial.....buy a car to ferry ur parents. I tink most of us pale in comparison incld myself. Since u a fan of Jaguar frm young, thn go all out and earn ur keep to own tis car. I hav been dwn tis road, I mean buyin the car I wanted since young. Bt I wanted it becos of other reason, someone in my younger days told me I cld nvr own one in my life......For goodness sakes, its oni a Honda. Bt Honda was expensive too in my younger days.....Back to the topic. If I am not wrong the body of the jaguars are abit diff frm the other Contis. Heard frm somewhere, a taxi driver bumped a jaguar & was claimed 10k for the replacement bumper which was almost the whole rear. Dunno wat steel alloy cast body, something like dat. Does any1 knws?

Hi there,

I have been driving the X-Type 2.0V6SE for 3 years now, since I got it brand new. With 50/50 driving environment, fuel consumption with V-Power and Caltex Platinum gets me about 7.2 to 7.5km/l. With Fuelsave 98, I get about 8.5km/l (consistent 2 tanks). So yes, the the X-Type's a heavy drinker compared to its class rivals. It's a 2001 model so the technology's considered ancient. The car's solidly-built and comfortable. Handling is there if you have the guts to overcome the "soft" riding suspension.

There are some minor minor problems relating to trim, easily rectified provided you got time to go back to Malayan Motors (MM) but mechanical integrity is not an issue. I have not had to pay for servicing as the car came with free servicing and parts for 3 years so cannot say how much the normal servicing will cost. But I had to change part of the wing mirror due to an accident and was told that the whole thing costs almost $1600. But the parts are of very good quality...eg, the brake pads are from Ferodo, the dampers are Bilstein, so you pay for all these. Good to buy a 1.5 to 2 year old model due to the heavy depreciation.

No wonder ppl say MCFers are so unfriendly. Can't I just ask? I can afford just a used x-type to be honest but I don't want to be burden by servicing if it is going to cost a lot. I have left MCF many years already as it is getting mess up by ppl like u. I just start to post and u give such sarcastic remarks. I know u r rich but u dun have to make this remark. Can't I do my research here with ppl who ever own this car?

I suggest you do something like me, get one that is just past 3 years. The reason is that there is a 3-year warranty on the car, so you can be sure that it would have been serviced at Malayan Motors prior to you. I bought mine in Jan 2009 and very luckily during the low price of the used car market. now they are asking for a few K more than what I paid, for a car that is the same age as mine, but now 9 months later, nuts.

As for maintenance I am going to go with Malayan Motors. It's a bit more pricey but you know they do a thorough job and they know how to open and dismantle things. Last week I tried to change my brake bulb (thought I wouldn't bother to go to Malayan for such a simple thing) and the carpeting in the boot covering the light cluster is so tight fitting I had to struggle with it, and then putting it back again properly. Outside workshop might damage it when they try to force the carpeting out of the groove, or something similar damage because they don't know how and don't really care.

I suppose yours would be a bit newer than mine, which is Oct 05. I use Caltex 95 and even with all the jams on the highway (everyday morning and evening from Tampines to Clementi and back) I can get 8.5km/l consistently. Interestingly when I was new to it and drove it delicately, I got something like your consumption too. But once I have gotten used to it and drives it briskly the consumption improved. I have consumption data going back 10 months and it is very consistent.

Hi,

yes I did notice that when I drive faster consistently for a stretch, the fuel consumption metre saw a improvement in fuel consumption. Think I'll follow your advice and monitor again. I just finished one tank of Fuelsave 95 and it is back to 7.5km/l. Have you tried 98 octance petrol for your Jag? any difference between 95 & 98? mileage and power?

Perhaps can consider this for my wife to drive as family car next time.

sat in my friend's jag before. the make is pretty good.

I like the taut leather feel and wood trims are acceptable in a jag...

May I know how much are they charging for regular servicing and most expensive how much?

Yes it is true that the X-Type is a Mondeo in disguise but I am not disturb by that. The chassis and engine is a Ford Mondeo. After Tata took over the owner ship of Jaguar and Land Rover, they axed the small Jaguar as there will be no small engine available in the range. So I am thinking of getting the small Jag. Any owners here?

i have a x-type 2.0 V6 S.E and XF 3.0 at home, in terms of exterior.. of course XF wins with its modern fiercer design whereas the x-type offers you a more mature outlook but with sleek bonnet lines. in terms of interior, i prefer the x-type because it feels more luxurious than the XF. to me, XF is like having an identity crisis, dont know what to be, sporty or luxurious. x-type is obviously trying to be luxurious in this department.

for x-type, ride comfort is very good, decent passenger and driver space in the front but cramped rear leg room. the size of an x-type isnt really that small but once you go in, i don't know where did all that space went. putting 3 adults behind will be a squeeze. even 2 adults and a kid, maybe that wld be just nice. gearbox i think is only 5 speed and you can feel abit of gear change, not as smooth. performance, only 2L v6 so please don't expect alot. it's more than enough for my mum's ferrying of people or going to supermarket. when cruising, the wind noise is minimal maybe due to good insulation. even at higher speeds, car still feels very planted.

one thing is for sure, i feel overall, its more "sturdy" in the x-type than the XF.
