Hi IT expert bros,

I intend to buy the new Window, not the upgrade version, as I find the prev ver is already so huge. But I was told that a new installation will wipe out all my programs (eg. Microsoft office etc), is that right?

of cos the best is do a clean install... which means u will have to reformat your hard disk and install from boot disk...

remember to back up your documents to an external hard disk first... [sweatdrop]

so far my windows 7 has been great... no hanging and fast... [thumbsup]

only incompatible program is my symantec antivirus... have to buy new version...

Will software and peripheral drivers bought during the XP era (meaning they were meant for use in 32 bit XP) be useable in 32 bit Windows 7?

It should... Win7 and vista shares similiar kernel so it should still be XP backward compatible. ANyway, why would any peripheral only support up to XP?

kns... MS never run out of ideas to rip the consumers... the Win98 is a great OS but they stop the support and start to introduce the crappy Win ME... then when comes to Win XP, its another great OS with good stability + performance, yet, they replace it with Vista and preinstalled in all lappy and most branded PC, another crap OS.... I wanna downgrade my vista to XP also not allowed... now, they introduce the great 7 just a few yrs after they launch vista... knn, unker billy is really the greatest robber in the history!

My 1 cent advise is for you you to buy a new harddisk and install the new window.

You can also buy an external case for the old harddisk for backup and reinstall the necessary docs.

no windows 7 install will not wipe out your stuff.

it will be stored in a folder called windows.old after you upgrade. good luck

whats wrong with vista? I think the current version is much much better than XP.

What is the improvement from vista to 7? I read microsoft a say got at least 5% improvement in speed..... which is like err... nothing.

There is nothing wrong with Vista. It's just that Vista is wrong.

So the Windoze 7 is not dozing anymore ?

A friend of mine got his hands on the windows 7 when it was launched. He said that its as good as the vista (which means wait for a month or 2 before

Microsoft rectifies some problems)

Yes, not all apps under XP will work in win7. Please ensure the apps you need to use will work in 7 before you migrate.

My Samsung Z800 3G modem for example, even though can install and appears OK when installing will not work after installation in Win7.

Still waiting for the updated drivers from Samsung. If they don't come soon, I am screwed. [smallcry]

Migrate to Mac OS for peace of mind, once and for all.

I like the Window7 startup and shutown time, even faster than WinXP.

Using the 64 bit Win7, very stable and a very useful taskbar. Dun think I will switch back to XP anymore. Win7 is what Vista should be 2 years ago. [cool]
