I don't think these figures are inflated since its on the VolksWagon Sg forum, and all are only for the MU failure, other failures are not listed. All mileage listed under under 100,000 km. Any 2nd-hand buyer?????? Shanghai VW taxi are manual, no MU problem. cannot compare........

Jolie888 Clutched March 8, 2012 Share March 8, 2012 Wah! So terok case one ah? So unlike the VWs of old - those can last a lifetime and their engines go on and on. That's true German engineering! Below is cut & pasted from vagsg.com forum. It's a list of owners having DSG related problems. Categorized by nick, model, km upon failure, type of failure. Now, this is only the tip of a much larger iceberg, as not all VW owners are in vagsg forum and not all forumers may choose to report and add themselves to the statistics. But just from the list, I reckon it is a HUGE problem with VW cars! [bigcry] I think this alone will have a severe impact on VW resale and anyone who intends to dump their VW in the used car market. RogueGTR Neutral Newbie March 8, 2012 Share March 8, 2012 VW dsg mechatronic unit especially on those 1.4L Twin charger is a well known problem but most of them (huge number) are replaced FOC by agent. My 06' (got it when new) Mk5 GTi mechatronic also failed when it was approx 8000km mileage. Has it fail after replacement? Nope, it's approx 60,000km now. Did i regret getting ride? Nope, on the contrary, it was the longest ride i had (more than 3 Beautiful years of ownership). Did i regret selling? YES! It's so good that my mum / my 2 cousins & my aunt each bought 1 Golf GTi (4 Golf's GTi's in my family apart fm mine) Now to those who complain, then my 2 cents worth- go get a rull of the mill Jap car It'll run & run without any problem but then again the thrill of feeling the ride/ how it corners but most importantly, how you can place ride into a corner with car 'talking' to you via steering which a golf will give -- thhis you will never understand
Sabian Turbocharged March 8, 2012 Share March 8, 2012 The list has grown since I last went in for a look see. What is the point of having "cutting edge" tech if your ride is going to spend more time in the wkshop than a b&b car?

BMWs corner way better (being RWD) and its steering wheel is so much more communicative than an FWD VW can ever be. Now I note that you do own BMWs too. So let's not be biased. But here, folks are taking about the poor reliability of the 7-dry DSG mated to the 1.4 TSIs generally. Some replaced 2, or 3 times, still continue to spoil one. They told me VW does not have a solution. Just keep on replacing. Duh!!
Spidercool 1st Gear March 8, 2012 Share March 8, 2012 Huh....where to find so many gearbox to replace? Maybe vw just stated replaced but in actual fact is replacing with another"repaired" unit which was removed earlier...

Paddie 3rd Gear March 8, 2012 Share March 8, 2012 Huh....where to find so many gearbox to replace? It's not gearbox replaced but a component within the gearbox that is known to be problematic for the earlier batches.

My colleague less than 2.5 yo Gti (sorry shld b golf, my bad) has already replaced gearbox - according to him and just recently car couldn't start and MU was replaced. So what do you think? New/old gearbox with new / old MU ? Only vw center know. Edited March 8, 2012 by Spidercool ↡ Advertisement
