Angchug 3rd Gear August 7, 2012 Share August 7, 2012 I doubt your C200 plugs are copper, maybe you can check your owner manual and quote what part number it state there? so that i can x-ref and see what type of plugs is that. OEM spark plugs now at mostly platinum or iridium now. Just removed my spark yesterday after 3.5years, 50km. It's a Denso Super normal sparks same as the one I bought from Gallop OEM sparks for W245. Mine is B170, my neighbour is C200, 2008
Satrianeo_2012 Clutched August 7, 2012 Share August 7, 2012 Copper plugs wear around 0.1-0.15mm per 10k km, so if you are using 1.1mm gap spark plugs, by the end of 10k your plugs will be around 1.2-1.25mm or >1.3mm after 20k km. This will put undue stress/load on your ignition coil to jump this increase gap, causing misfire and shortening the ignition coil life. Don't drag your spark plugs change interval by too long, would be very costly if you have to change your ignition coil. See below technical information: Denso copper wear rate Just regap the plugs will do.... Dont need to change......

My current ride Wish (2006) original spark plug is ik16 but the mechanics I went to at Autobacs says can also use ik20. Can anyone give me some advice? IK20 is one heat range colder than IK16, so for example if you travel frequently to KL or usually are pretty heavy footer, then the colder plug would be suitable. if not, IK16 would be enough. drop by our warehouse next door next time you are Autobac ubi, we can discuss more your driving habits and see if you need to go colder or not. Can anyone give me some advice? use back the original copper ones. if you go mx tradings, he will try to sell you iridium plugs and tell you lots of advantages of such plugs. its merely salesman talk. Ooosh 1st Gear November 9, 2012 Share November 9, 2012 (edited) Agree. The best conductor of electricity is silver followed by copper and then iridium. I used Iridium and copper and no difference in fuel economy and power. Copper is more economical as it cost $15 per set and i change it every 20k servicing. Only 1/5 of what I pump for petrol every week. Iridium is largely sales talk and overhyped. Edited November 9, 2012 by Ooosh

There is scientific reason why iridium is superior to copper, that why even the manufacturer are moving toward iridium as standard now. Oh, in case you don't know, all iridium are copper core, it's just the centre electrode are iridium .

Limiter Neutral Newbie November 9, 2012 Share November 9, 2012 (edited) Its not as if iridium plugs gonna boost you any torque/bhp or any major improvement that your butt could feel, much less paper figures on dyno. End of the day, plug is still a plug to provide spark for combustion and imo normal plugs will be more than sufficient to do the job. All these factor does not justify the huge price difference between the 2 for psychological "improvement". Its just my personal opinions as i tried iridium before.
