Jamesc Hypersonic October 10, 2010 Share October 10, 2010 Driving style has the biggest influence. Hard breaking? Hard acceleration? Hard cornering? Proper inflation? Anyway good to change after 5 years as the rubber hardens. The tires with silica has improved durability.
Crusader75 Neutral Newbie October 10, 2010 Share October 10, 2010 Important statement to note from Tirerack website - "Typically, comparing the Treadwear Grades of tire lines within a single brand is somewhat helpful, while attempting to compare the grades between different brands is not as helpful." So I guess your guess is as good as mine on the thread wear of different brands.

Jchuacl Clutched October 13, 2010 Share October 13, 2010 U need to compare within the same brand, not across brands, as the rating is not the same across different manufacturer. For some reason which I don't understand, European branded tyres which costs more, does not offer the same level of performance as compared to some of the Japanese brands which costs lesser. Generally, European branded tyres tends to be more biased towards consistent grip throughout the lifetime rather than the ultimate grip. As far as I know, BS S03 was designed with that philosophy and hence many pple were disappointed with it as it deemed as less competent as compared to BS S02. Thereafter, newer tyres produced by BS has gone back to their original philosophy of having ultimate grip. not really. And just feel at the sidewall construction and you'll know why some tyres are heavier than others.
