Toyota Camry

Its the length of the trip - too short. The car has hardly warmed up (that's where it is consuming the most petrol) and you are already at your destination already. Its repeated again on your return journey.

Not to mention this route has slow traffic near KPE exit, and takes you a couple of light changes before you clear the Sims Avenue junction. Idling is a FC killer.

Very likely your combustion chambers are choked with carbon from unburnt fuel due to the short journeys and that's another factor that might cause high FC.

So 6km/L not too surprising to me.

My previous 3L Toyota does 9.3km/L in mixed driving.

Yes and no for distance. I think more of technical specs and factory tunning of the ride. My fren driving his Mark X can achieve around 8-9km/L for the same route. Properly higher CC and V6 engine.

I drove my camry the other on PIE with very smooth traffic. From TPY to Tampines I easily achieved around 11.5km/L whereby my fren only achieved ard 10km/L with his Mark X.....

I wonder how does your friend measure his single trip FC to know its 10km/L? Is he driving the current gen Mark X? I know the older one doesn't have a trip computer...cos I used to drive one too...

On smooth traffic and driving at constant highway speed, 11.5km/L is also not a figure to write home about. You should be expecting 13-15km/L on long single trips.

What I am (and other good folks here) trying to tell you is, not everything is well with your camry if you are constantly getting 6km/L and you should get someone to check it out.

BUT, if you are happy with the FC of your car and feel that everything is fine and dandy, we can only be happy for you. [;)]

11.5 for a camry is decent. It is a big and heavy car. I have one previously. No matter how discipline right foot is, cannot go beyond 11.5 with combine traffic.

He is talking about 6km/L daily driving and 11.5km/L on single long drive on expressway.

Ok... That's very bad FC. Need to send for servicing.

When I bought mine last time, the FC average at 9.5 thereabout. After major servicing(Change oil, coolant, brake pad etc), FC went up to 11.5 or so.

Neutral Newbie

Yours 2L or 2.4L? Mine I feels too at times. I thought this is norm as when we needs to pick up, the car can feels and drop a gear.

If you ever used the cruise control function, you will feel the same when the car is doing up or down slope.

If I use the manual shifting then such jerk will not be there....

Hi lun71,

Mine is 2L.

While it is normal for Camry, but for other cars I have driven so far. personally i find this rough acceleration annoying.

Both of us refilled petrol together after the trip. I also don't based on the so-called average FC reading from my camry. We started off with full tank at TPY. Then refilled again when we reaches TPY, after I told him of my FC reading. Infact my FC reading giving me 12.5km/l.

We does manual workout based on distance travelled (km) over petrol refilled (litres).

Of course if the petrol kiosk staff didn't really full refilled (stopped when the nozzle triggered) or "over refilled" (up to the brim), the FC may varies too.

The latest camry comes with 3 FC readings. I think like current, avg and total FC if I am not wrong. Will this provide a more accurate FC gauge?

Yours 2.4L too? My fren 2L achieves much better FC than me. Though power to weight ratio states otherwise.

Of course like what bro Toeknee_33 has mentioned, the distance travelled and the type of roads play an important role too.

Frankly speaking my 1.6L Avante can be much more quieter and smoother than my 2.4L Camry at times.

The old saying of Camry to be as quiet as Lexus seems to be over boosting. For camry only the engine is quiet and smooth. Gear change is not that smooth as you could feel the jerk. For my 2.4L trans is 5speeder versus ur 2L 4speeder I can still feel the jerk at time. Road noise is pretty bad on rough road. And if rain the roof can be pretty noisy. Only engine noise and wind noise to be very well suppressed.

Having that said, I really love the power that comes from the 2.4L. Though it will be at the expense of FC if I am being more "enthusiatic". Lol.

Yes bro. Thanks for clarifying. I just trying to explain FC depends on the type of road travelled and also depends on traffic condition.

If I am running 100% on highway  sure I could get much better FC.

I owned 2l camry n also got chance to drive for 2.4l due to accident claim. I noticed 2.4l giving me much pick up power n fc, more smooth in term of gear changing (5 speed instead of 4 for 2l).

Tyre pressure 260. same route. 16 inches stock tyres.

My FC for 2l is ard 10.5 to 11.2. but 2.4 easily reach ard 11.

I am driving the 2.4L camry and I do not find the 5th gear helps in the pickup in any way.

I believe it only allows the car to cruise at a higher speed with lower rpm.

My 5th gear only kicks in when the car is about 100km/h.

My FC is about 10.2km/l with 80% highway 20% city. Running on 17 inch stock and 240 psi.

I got my 2.5 camry on 31 Oct. Fantastic , smooth , responsive drive as compared to my previous 2011 2.0 camry. The FC still almost same aa my previous 2.0L.

Hi, I'm driving a Camry 2.5 delivered in Nov 2015. Like to check if any owners here have updated the map on the GPS that comes with the car? Can you share how it is done? Thank you!

Hi, I got my Camry in Aug2014, and they give one free update. You need to bring the original SD card and exchange for a new one from BM. Don't know where to get maps update. Anyone have any clues?
