Bas...ket. [laugh] [laugh] BTW, it's THREE cats. :D

Walking not a form of exercise meh? [:p]

How skunk? You organise the first ever official "Exercising without a gym" contest lah.

The best bluff line wins a garoupa caught by yourself...

I start:

"To get volleyball size biceps, you must eat a lot of garoupa and own a cat"

Just to add 1 more cent to skunk's advice :D

1) Avoid all manner of soups, whether homecooked, hawker centre or in cans.

2) For 2 weeks, drink only water and no other drinks, especially fruit juice. Not even gatorade, 100 plus, etc.

Try this. Good luck.

homecooked can lah, as long as no root vege inside.....it's outside soup n canned soup that's very bad.....all thickened with cornstarch n boiled with corn or potato to make it sweet.

Crystal, if u like soup:

Oxtail. I usually cook 1kg at a go hehe.

A tiny piece of ginger. Some pepper, cut red chilli, salt, coiander seeds, fennel seeds, lemongrass, coconut cream. Boil for at least 3 hours. Yum. Keep all those seasonings to tiny amounts, u will be ok.

frankly speaking, exercise only aids weight-loss in this aspect:

1) water-loss (which may or may not be off-set by weight-gain from muscle mass increase)

2) exercise depletes muscle glycogen, which stops weight-gain....but will only aid loss of existing body-fat from a proper diet.

which ultimately leads us to the fact that the most important factor to bodyfat reduction is diet, not exercise.

My wife TOTALLY doesn't exercise and she's lost 17kg and dropped 6 pants sizes.

Exercise builds muscle, dieting loses bodyfat. Different issues, look at a piece of lean pork at the market, and a piece of lard. See how different they are? They're built, and lost differently.

I disagree. Exercise does lead to body fat loss also. My weight came down from 85kg to 70kg from pure exercise alone! My body fat % dropped from about 27% to 17% on pure exercise. And my waist dropped from 36" to 32" on exercise alone. But it was a gradual loss, over a period of 8 years. And best of all I was on a high carb low fat diet!

What I am suggesting to Cyrstal is to tweak her routine a bit. She may need to have exercise to jump start her fat metabolism. My brother has been on a low carb diet for years, but there has been no appreciable weight loss. What he doesn't do is exercise.

I think some people are different. My brother is one of them and Crystal might be one of them. So, if going on a low carb diet alone doesn't help her, she should try exercising to see whether her weight loss will speed up. There's no harm trying.

Apart from weight loss, exercise does have other benefits such as a stronger cardio-vascular system; better blood circulation and lower blood pressure, amongst others.

u said it. It's not purely exercise. U were on a diet too.

I've not met a single person who has managed to lose weight by eating high-fat and high carb and high everything, and exercise like mad and still lose weight.

It's scientific fact: U can run 10km, and all the energy u expended, is probably only the amount provided by a large sandwich.

I'm not discouraging exercise. Exercise is good for health. But as a weight-loss tool, it's obviously not effective. Look at all the exercise that mainstream medicine is prescribing to the overweight, might as well ask them to follow our diet better.

what he doesn't do, is eat high-fat. Low carb alone might not be enough.

Either that or he already has nothing to lose LOL

I agree that exercise alone is not an effective weight loss tool: it takes a lot of effort to burn calories, but it sure feels good!

But coming back to Cyrstal's situation, it might be something she needs to kick start the fat metabolism. If she hasn't lost any significant weight after a few months on a low-carb diet, something is wrong. Either she is not eating a low carb diet or her body metabolism is different from most other people: I know my brother is one of them.

Trust me, he is eating high fat. Doesn't eat any bread/rice, etc. He is about 20kgs heavier than me with a body fat of 30%!

Not to split hair, but if Crystal herself is not cooking the soup at home, unless she knows exactly what her mum or maid puts into the soup, best avoid altogether.

A bit extreme, but quite obvious Crystal's got stealth carbs sneaking in (somewhere), so eliminate all the likely areas where carbs are hiding. [:)]

Hi guys

thanks for all the advise ! I guess could be some hidden carbs when I lunch out ....

I dun exercise except bi weekly golf with 4 hours under sun and some walkings.

I am trying to swim once a week but pai seh to put on my swimming suit. [;)]

True la , sometimes i cheat 1 carb meal but i had 9 low carb meals so weight should lose more than 2 kgs ? U guys seen my blood test , it proved that I am on low carb leh .

I tried to buy ketostix at guardian but they dun have MO mentioned one , the other one was a bit expensive.

I will try JB pharmacy.

Anyway , later I will go facial and use their weighing machine to see my fat % , i know its not tat accurate but at least it a guideline since i started this diet. my fat % did dropped 4% since last I compared the last readings. Hopefully , today % fats will drop more.

Based on the machine , my metabolism age is 55 yrs old , 21 yrs older than my actual age , so it could be this reason too.

Will update u guys

Thanks

That is the culprit! It's not about using 9low carb meals to cover 1 carb meal!

I experimented somewhere in april - 1 meal of curry fish head with briyani rice(just 1 n half bowl of rice)...weight went up by 3kg n the best part is need 1 week of high fat meals to remove that 3kg! It's a week not just 9 meals!

Crystal, if you really really really want to lose a serious amount of weight, you need to go through a process of elimination.

Don't think about cheat meals until you're near to your goals. Eat as clean as possible. You already know what are the things that are potentially stumbling your weight loss, so instead of still doing the same things over and over again, make some changes and see what happens.

If you're eating a carb meal once every 10 meals, cut it out for a month and see what happens. If you're having gravy on your chicken, cut it out and see what happens after a month. Whatever it is, go through your food with a fine toothed comb and seek out everything that might be causing your weight loss stall.

Once you're near 50kg, you have a much bigger buffer. Even if you put on 2kg, you're only 52kg. It's easy to lose 2kg. But for now, eat clean and fix your potential metabolic problems first. People who have abused their bodies for years usually have a whole host of problems like poor digestion, insulin/leptin resistance, poor nutrition, inflammation...etc. It takes time to fix these problems. As long as you are eating well, your body will slowly heal itself.

Exercise is a powerful tool to help you kick start weight loss. Not the walking on a treadmill for 1 hour type of exercise. The 30 seconds of skipping rope as fast as you can, rest for 30 seconds and repeat for 6-8 times type. It only take LESS THAN 10 MINS to do. If you can incorporate it into your day, you will see big results. It's LESS THAN 10 MINS.
