Tigershark1976 Turbocharged January 15, 2010 Share January 15, 2010 Hi guys My current ride is an 09 altis. I am currently finding it underpowered. For the first 3 gears are ok as they are rather responsive but it is the 4th it is sluggish unless i turn off the a/c. What are the improvements that i can do to improve the performance of my altis? thanks in advance! For FOC power, simply remove everything that is not needed in your car. 1) your spare tyre 2) replace the thick car mat with old new paper, 3) remove all soft toy and papers and other garbage in the boot, 4) remove any ICE component in the car (amplifier, aftermarket speaker), 5) maintain max 1/4 tank of fuel at all time, 6) maintain max 1/2 tank of wiper fluid. u can easily reduce 50kg to 80kg and the improvement over such weight for an typical 1.5L to 1.6L saloon could be tremendious.... ↡ Advertisement

Nmnhnlm Clutched January 15, 2010 Share January 15, 2010 Its 4th gear, of course performance won't be great......... If you really want performance, drop in a small Turbo or a supercharger. I would advise against changing exhaust, extractors blah blah.... They add very little power compared to forced induction.
Nmnhnlm Clutched January 15, 2010 Share January 15, 2010 If I'm not mistaken, 4-2-1 is for low to mid range torque. TS is asking for mid to high end, which I think a 4-1 would be better. Piggybacked on will help improve all range of torque. It won't help much if TS doesn't have the cams to match...... Stock cams are designed for low-mid range power. Chuppychup Neutral Newbie March 11, 2010 Share March 11, 2010 yes ... part of the spare tyre job actually is to absorb the impact from rear end ... btw i heard some insurance will give problem when claiming , if they realise that your spare tyre compartment is missing ... They will push the blame to u. Wonder true anot ?
Hermitage 1st Gear March 11, 2010 Share March 11, 2010 icic... I googled and the other forum came up top. So I assumed it's that one. Are you in VOGS? Your nick looks familiar. Used to frequent vogs until their website was down, then joined MCF and never looked back since I no longer drive a Vios... Owned a pre-fl vios then and was quite happy with the performance gains from just some simple bolt-on mods. Nothing too extreme like TC or SC or NOS! To TS, what some of the broz here have suggested (e.g. light mods like intake/exhaust + ECU) will be good enough already! Personally, I'd suggest 4-2-1 extractor 'cos it helps overcome the losses in low-end power from your open-pod air intake modification.

Tigershark1976 Turbocharged March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 (edited) Is that a fact? http://www.velocityjournal.com/journal/200...leases/117.html - A spare tire positioned horizontally in the cargo area to help absorb rear collision energy. of cos, not to mentioned spare tyre, even stucking a piece of styrofoam behind the bumper will help to absorb the impact during accident... question is, how much? I have seen the an Altis backside almost gone after reverse and hit a lamp post in mal.... how fast can the driver be? 30km/hr reversing speed?? i mean, no hard feeling to u if you happen to own an Altis. im confident enof to say that Altis is as solid as a coke tin bcos i did a full sound proofing (DIY) for my dad altis and I know how solid the car is... Tyer Neutral Newbie March 15, 2010 Share March 15, 2010 Instead of talking about the other performance, how about the audio part. I had already soundproof the doors, added 1 amp and 2 new speakers. I just noted that the new altis will come with the reverse camera, together with the GPS. Anyone knows if it is an available upgrade (i don't mean free) to existing altis driver. I was thinking of getting a pioneer dvd HU,but noted that it comes w/o GPS.

Tigershark1976 Turbocharged March 16, 2010 Share March 16, 2010 nope, i don't own an altis. actually, alot of people believe that spare tyre can reduce impact from rear accident. Which is not wrong, as I mentioned, it should be able to reduce the impact to a certain extent, but dont expect so much. The spare tyre is round in shape, and the rubber filled with air is a good medium to absorb a considerable amount of energy during collision... however, if you take a closer look how the spare tyre secure at the tyre well, you wil wonder how true is that... The spare tyre is secure at the tyre well using a thin long screw... this is to prevent the spare tyre from moving around when the car is moving. Well, it serve its purpose most of the time... however, during collision, what will happen to the spare tyre? will the tiny screw able to hold it in its position in the tyre well? so that the spare tyre can sit nicely and absorb the impact/ energy? I really doubt so... Unless the spare tyre is secured in the tyre well using strong bolt/ nut... otherwise, the spare tyre can only absorb as much force as the tiny screw can hold the spare tyre... ↡ Advertisement
