Small CC cars

I know this may sound silly, but i am looking at down sizing my car from 1.4CC to something a lot lesser. I figure out that since I am the only person in the car most of the time, I do not actually need a full sedan. I am travelling less highway nowadays due to the nature of my work, so i thought something with small cc will cut down on my maintenance cost. This will include cutting down on the road tax, insurance (it just went up again although i am already at 50+5%), and most importantly, fuel cost. I promised to control my lead heavy foot. I don't need POWERFUL cars that can go up to 260km/h.

I am not looking into new cars, but intending to buy 2nd hand.

1) Mit i

2) R2

3) Citroen C1

4) Peugeot 107

Can someone quote me the insurance for the above vehicles, as well as the commonly achieved FC?

Owners of the above mentioned cars, please give me some advise.

All those 4 car you list is very small le, why don't consider the previous generation of the Honda fit/jazz.

i drove the previous generation jazz before , it is very spacious and i get 16.1km/l before

good car and cheap

look at it as sunken cost.

any car you change

u pay

margin to dealer if secondhand - few ks

loss on car sold - at least few ks

if new car worse

loss on car sold - few ks

depre -huge

margin to dealer - at least 6k

all these will negate your cost savings.

the cheapest way is either don t drive or just keep your car as it is.

small sized cars and small cc cars do not mean economical.

a small sized car like Z4 and a small cc car like RX8.

both possessed with higher maintenance cost as compared to other higher cc and size cars.

a decent 1.6L car will be fairly good.

for cheap car = Hyundai Avante

for low FC car = Hybrid cars like Toyota Prius

at least you won't feel fed-up when dealing with overtaking or pick ups.

most importantly, worth the bucks! =p

Can consider suzuki swift 1.2XG.

FC wise not bad... between 12km/l to 15km/l.

Keyless & climatic control too.. CVT transmission..

A very decent car...

I get what you mean. Thank you Verve for your advise. I fully understand the above. Car ownership in Singapore is always a luxury for most of us. But still, many of us can't tahan the itch to change car every now and then...

Dear Ladykillerz,

for the same reason, I did not rope in cars like Z4 and RX8 for discussion. I understand the high maintenance cost of those cars. I am okay with driving slower than what i am doing now. Thanks for your suggestions. Perhaps, i should rephrase my questions. Thanks. ^_^

I did thought of that too, but i rather stay away from CVT transmission. Thanks

My choices will be C1 and 107. Both are the same...very nibble and fun to drive. 2 of my friends have the 107 as their 2nd/3rd car...they sometimes prefer it to their more hardcore, powerful ones.

i assume you are driving a Kia Rio...

the cars you mention not much cheaper from your car... if not MORE expensive...

and buy 2nd hand? lose $ on selling, buying... transfer... dont make any sense...

unless... you are driving a very expensive car?...

you wanna save $ but choose 'rare' cars..... make no sense.............

Hey bro, get the Getz 1.1M. I am getting an average of 16km/l. I cant think of any other car that suits u. Power is barely adequate but no complains. Its a very simple car, maintenance is minimal. Didnt regret getting it. :D

I get what you mean. The cars i chosed are not any cheaper to buy compared to my rio. The depreciation is comparable though. Perhaps a picanto would be a better option. Thanks for your advise.

Actually if you want to save by downgrade ur kia rio, your above 4 choices will be more like an upgrade than downgrade.. i would said cars like picanto , perodua etc will be more realistic.

Confirm can get 16km/l consistenly? I know my friend's 1.6 is always hungry for fuel. I always though it will have better power to weight ratio and shd be more wallet friendly. I guess driving style matters. Will consider it. Thanks.
