2cents 2nd Gear November 4, 2013 Share November 4, 2013 during cruising like 80, when u step the brake, u can feel this trembling feeling on the steering wheel. If without brake trembling, then should be your wheel balancing. If brake rotor, either skim it or replace a new 1.

Thanks All Rotor warp when u brake u sud feel the brakes bite then loose then bite then loose like that. But not always is warp. Cud also b rotor dirty n the bite is not consistent or even. So far I drove several cars n some till 10 yrs old n a COE car till 19 yrs old n so far never had to change any of the rotors. But I also never skim the rotors. Skim too often n they get very thin so must change. Edited November 4, 2013 by Pisces69

The grooves will come back; sorta waste $$$ Next round, just change another brand of pads, but be careful for the initial period 'cos very little bite as pads sitting on the apex of the grooves only. So far all the cars I drove, the rotors had grooves. Its normal. Just that when u change new pads, u need to "seat" the new pads so ty wil wear same as the grooves. Then yr brakes wil bite as normal. And all the time Im using normal original or OEM pads. I never had those so-called special pads for track etc. The only time I wil consider to change the rotors is when ty r worn till the metal discs r too thin. So far its never happened. Pisces69 thanks bro for your advice. But I see nowadays so many pple keep changing their rotors. Last time it was never an issue. I think many now change cos their mech ask them to which is just another way for ws to make money from u. Last year my JB ws said my rotors got grooves. I said...So What. Hahaha.
Zniper 2nd Gear November 4, 2013 Share November 4, 2013 i am really surprised for the question TS asked and from some of the responses? if u do not feel safety is of utmost important to u and ur family dan pls go somewhere far far from me and dun be on the road... the word safety is very very important to me, so i will not only change brake pad when i heard grinding sound wif the disc, i will change whenever i feel tat braking distance is further by a lot... as for battery, if u got the time for the hassle dan wait for it to totally kaput dan change but not advisable... since u already drove for 3yrs+ and the batt is giving u signs, ur value for $$$ is already overshot and pls change it as well... (PS: batt will only last average about 2yrs+) judging from ur post, i would guess u will go for the cheapest tyres as well or mayb some 2nd hand which u might be ripped off by tyre shops... watever it is, pls dun come near me on the road as safety for u as a road user is equivalent to zero... Mizarahi Clutched November 5, 2013 Share November 5, 2013 Amazing some of your brake pads so good, can last 120,000km. Must be most of the time highway driving or non-peak no need to brake often. Salute!
SimplyTWL 1st Gear November 5, 2013 Share November 5, 2013 Changing a set of brake pads can cost lesser than a full tank of petrol. Just get it changed, sets the mind at ease and no need to worry about safety.
Subutai 3rd Gear November 5, 2013 Share November 5, 2013 My stock brake pads used up to 85k (5yrs), mech took out to inspect and although there is much thickness left and upon closer inspection, there are cracks nearing the metal plates that it was assembled on. So change my brake pads for original ones from stockists (<S$70, no labour to install as it was servicing).

Pisces69 6th Gear December 12, 2013 Share December 12, 2013 My car is nearly 3 yrs 7 mths and have covered 115k. My car is serviced by agent from day 1 and they never said I need to change brake pads. Is there a time limit to change? My last servicing was early Jan. They tested my battery and the result was bad (something like 64%???) and was told to change. Till date I have not changed and nothing happened though there is sign that starting was not that strong as before. How long more can I tong? Maybe u must b very gentle on the brakes. Then ty can last very long..........but......... if the pads become glazed over, ty cannot bite properly n u wun hv good braking. Its safer to change if like that. I kenna b4. Brakes seemed normal cos I always brake lightly. Then one day I jammed brake n the car did not stop quickly n I banged the back of another car. An expensive lesson. Now I test the brakes abt once a month by braking a bit hard to see if the pads hv glazed over. If I feel the brakes not so effective, I wil change the pads immediately. My first change of brake pads done by TCM was 115k Last service in mid Sep at 220k stil no need to change! Dunno whether they will change brake pads when I go for 230k servicing next week. Also last service TCM told me that my battery wont last long with reading of 78% or 87%. It has been more than 3 months since and battery already 46 months old and still no sign that battery will up lorry. This the first time my battery lasted so so long ↡ Advertisement
