Lefei Neutral Newbie February 20, 2010 Share February 20, 2010 Can't seem to start a thread of my own cos I am a new member. Thought of riding on this thread instead as it seem the most appropriate among the list of threads in the 1st page. I am a first time car owner and have questions regarding regular car servicing: 1) How many kms per car servicing? 2) What is usually during done during the car servicing? Change of oil and filter? For (1), either 10k mileage or 6 months from date of last servicing, whichever is earlier. For (2), normal servicing is change of engine oil, oil filter and airgun to blow your air filter subject to workshop's checking of other parts of the car. Major servicing is 40k or 80k. Yuan 6th Gear February 21, 2010 Share February 21, 2010 Is there a need to replace fuel filter ? I have not done that and my car is already 150k km.... Check your service manual. For my Jeepun car, it states replacement of fuel filter at 90k mileage.
Yuan 6th Gear February 21, 2010 Share February 21, 2010 What is done during the major servicing? Major servicing would include replacement of brake pads, brake fluid, transmission fluid etc. I suggest you check around your car make and the distributor of the original parts of your car and give them a call. Alternatively, you can go around other car forums for your car make and check with the fellas there.

Nf0rc3r 1st Gear March 9, 2011 Share March 9, 2011 I think singaporeans when they say fuel filter, they actually refer to the strainer, i dunno why this misconception. fuel strainer is in ur fuel tank attached to fuel pump for most cars. Fuel filter is undercarriage between engine and fuel tank or in the hood for older cars. Fuel filter is the one that gets dirty fast and need regular replacement. I think in other countries they don't replace strainers during servicing intervals at all. Just filters. Is it just us?

It also depends where the fuel filter is located (eg. Accent's located in the fuel tank, a tedious job that can be hazardrous if not well done)
Wolfy3769 2nd Gear March 10, 2011 Share March 10, 2011 i think now all modern car had their fuel filter install together with the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.. really not easy to change.. anyway.. changing interval is 60K or 80K iirc

It is very dangerous as fuel from pump is high pressure going to engine injectors Fuel filter or some say fuel strainer- they are the same- different between layman and suppliers term It is all in one ( filter, pump and float ) in most modern cars nowadays Changing fuel strainer is very troublesome but not impossible for layman. DIY myself and it took me almost 3 hours- you have to ensure the tank is empty

Just some extra info, fuel strainer, is with fuel pump assembly, to protect pump from particles. Fuel filter is between engine and tank to protect engine from particles. Its possible to have both, and if u have been changing fuel strainers like everyone else and neglected the filter. Den ho seh, cos filter is the one that is easily clogged and easily and cheaply changed and everyone outside singapore seems to knw that except singaporeans.
