Elcs78 Neutral Newbie June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 Hi all, I went to check with VE today and was told that all the electrical stuff ok. So, it should be other prob. They checked for me FOC. Level 03-03 Hup Seng is a very honest and good WS on electrical stuff. This was the 3rd time I asked for advise. They never charge me on 2 attempts for checking only. Thumbs up!!! My ws called this morning that he can get for me the original fuel pump @ $240 plus labour is abt $50-$60. I called owen rd and was told that the spare part is about $100-$200. My ws willing to charge me $50 for labour. Now is that should I change? This morning it was ok. Only occassionally, I need to continuous crank in 2 attempts to get it started. I not too sure whether to do in JB. But a bad exp there.

Gendut 2nd Gear June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 (edited) All electrical stuff does it include spark plug cable, distributor and/or ignition coil? I suggest another method which may point out the problem. How is your normal way of starting the car? Do you push in the key and straight away turn it to start? If you do, you may want to try to first turn the key to "ACC ON" for maybe 15 secs before turning it to start. The longer your car has stopped, the longer (>15 secs) you should wait. Tell us if it works. Edited June 25, 2012 by Gendut
Elcs78 Neutral Newbie June 27, 2012 Share June 27, 2012 Yes. I striaght away start. My friend asvised me to on the first knob and wait for the SRS light to dissappear first. But also same prob. However, not very frequent. I do not have the contact of the WS for the VE. Juz drive in early will do.
Toledo 1st Gear June 28, 2012 Share June 28, 2012 i changed my fuel pump as preventive maintenance when my car was coming to 5 yrs old last yr (i'm keeping the car for another 3 yrs). cleaned out the fuel tank as well (SG fuel is quite clean!). i don't want to be caught out when the fuel pump fails. I don't quite understand what you're trying to say. but anyway please ask your mechanuc to explore the possibility if your fuel pump check valve leaking or your injectors are leaking or your fuel line is nit able to hold pressure (most unlikely). when you stop your car, pressure remains in yr fuel line and when you next start the car again, it should start quickly as the pressure is retained. if there is the abivementioned problem, then it will take some time for the fyel oump ti build up the pressure again. Mits_jc 5th Gear June 28, 2012 Share June 28, 2012 To avoid potential fuel pump issues, try not to let your fuel gauge run too low as the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel. Depending on the design/shape of the fuel tank, if the fuel gets too low, the fuel pump will be overheated and risk of failure increases the more frequently this is allowed to happen. Elcs78 Neutral Newbie June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 I do think is fuel pump issue as ther's no sudden drop in rpm when I am driving along he expressway or road. However, now i till try to switch on the ignition and wait for the check light to go off then start the engine. Cranking happened twice only. But it was smooth on couple of attempts. Hence, I do not think is necessary to get it rectified. Likely will be the trasnsponder issues?or ECU?.If dun get it resolve, will I have a major prob in the future. So far noone can tell me what happend. The 2 WS that checked said is ok. My friend then told me its common for a 6 yrs old car.If nothing major then no need to repair.COs replacing ECU will cost a few k.
Gendut 2nd Gear July 3, 2012 Share July 3, 2012 So basically you're saying you're just paranoid and nothing is actually wrong with yr car.
Toledo 1st Gear July 4, 2012 Share July 4, 2012 if the outside WS can't find out what's wrong, i suggest you go back to the agent WS to check. sometimes you need the full diagnostics to find out the prob. might be better to pay a slight premium to save future headaches & time. i'm speaking from experience. i drive a wowo & i do use outside WS (they also have diagnostics tools). i thot my prob (check engine light/cruise control) was resolved but it came back again. in the end i went back to SMM & they resolved the prob. they were able to explain what the prob were as well. of course it cost much more bec the labour is very ex. parts wise is about the same as stockist. Meanmachine Supercharged July 4, 2012 Share July 4, 2012 If AD knows it the fuel pump issue, all the best to recall all Picanto cars for replacement, they cannot expect all Picanto driver/s to experience such nonsense and risk breakdown, coy will lose more than selling such ' faulty risk car. AD should have known better to solve problem rather than fire-fighting . . .
Elcs78 Neutral Newbie July 7, 2012 Share July 7, 2012 Thanx all for your replies.I checked with another workshop and was told that replacement of 2nd hand board is @ $500 and new one abt 2-3k. The boss advised not to change as it still can start. However, he taught me how to start and off it and switch on again without damaging the starter motor. Dun crank continuously can already. The longer your car has stopped, the longer (>15 secs) you should wait. Tell us if it works. The method of turn the ACC to ON and wait 10-15 seconds works to help me determine my fuel pump is showing signs of failure. My engine can't crank up randomly, when it happpen, I have to really crank for 5 seconds of more to start engine. Changed spark plugs, battery, do all the regular servicing, same problem, until someone recommend the ACC to ON method. Now car can start properly. But as preventive measure, better get it replace before stalling on highway. And yes, I have a habit to drive to last drop of fuel, blame on credit cards promotions bah. :) Now trying to determine a WS for the change, don't want to get carrot.
