Nmnhnlm Clutched March 5, 2010 Share March 5, 2010 Screw the stock pump lar. Just go get Walbro which is very good and reliable. Should be less than $200 for the pump

Nicholassoong Neutral Newbie March 5, 2010 Author Share March 5, 2010 When my car broke down initially, I thought my battery ran flat. However, the people at C&C workshop say that it is the fuel pump issue. The replacement was covered by warranty. However, I am still pretty unhappy about what has happened. Felt so proud of the reliability of my car initially. But this has ruined everything. Now, I've to worry about the car breaking down if I drive in to Malaysia. What should I do if this really happens? It will be so troublesome to tow the car back to Singapore.

Devilcup 3rd Gear March 6, 2010 Share March 6, 2010 (edited) fuel pump faulty can be in any car... so far i seldom hear fuel pump problem. i do hear that if u always drive almost til last drop of fuel, ur fuel pump may spoil easily :) if ur car is new, more probably the pump is not a good set. picanto most deadly killer is brake pump. do take a look out if yr car is suddenly super sluggish :) Edited March 6, 2010 by Devilcup
Nicholassoong Neutral Newbie March 6, 2010 Author Share March 6, 2010 Interesting. About the saying that fuel pump will spoil easily if I keep driving the car till the last drop of fuel, is it a fact or a myth? Bcoz of the small size of my tank, I do try to drive till the tank is almost empty before I top up fuel. Coz Esso only gives discount for more than 50 dollars petrol pumped. Usually when i top up, there is only about 6 litres of fuel in the tank. Not sure if this will spoil the pump. Can any bro advise?
Silver_blade Turbocharged March 6, 2010 Share March 6, 2010 Not a myth....cos fuel pump will be cooler if it is submerged in the fuel. Fuel acts like a sort of 'coolant' for the fuel pump. But if you usually have almost empty fuel tank...fuel pump will be 'over-heated' and shorten it's lifespan.
Opel17 6th Gear March 6, 2010 Share March 6, 2010 I previously drove the OPEL Corsa 1.2L, and also had fuel pump failure. Then the Corsa was about 8yrs old. I alway drive till the last drop before topping up. And believe the sediments at the petrol tank bottom MAYBE contribute to the wear & tear of the fuel pump. After that, I top up when minimum 1/4" tank, just as a precaution.

The fuel in the car cools down the pump as well. And if your pump starts sucking in air (because of insufficient) the pump will spoil.

Kb27 Supersonic March 8, 2010 Share March 8, 2010 (edited) Interesting. About the saying that fuel pump will spoil easily if I keep driving the car till the last drop of fuel, is it a fact or a myth? Usually when i top up, there is only about 6 litres of fuel in the tank. Not sure if this will spoil the pump. Can any bro advise? I have removed fuel pump before. If yours is the long life fuel filter, the pump is attached as part of the filter. The whole thing is immersed in the fuel tank and surrounded by fuel. Fuel acts as a coolant for the pump, so yeah, it does keep the pump cool. Try not to go below 1/4 tank before topping up and your pump should last longer. But it's no guarantee against manufacturer's defect. That's why you have warranty for a new car. Also avoid putting your car key to ON and listening to the radio for long hours. Your fuel pump is still working, even though the engine is not running. Edited March 8, 2010 by Kb27
Jeleburacer Neutral Newbie March 8, 2010 Share March 8, 2010 Did you change your fuel filter every 5k~10k? If 2year you never change before it could be one of the factors caused your fuel pump life shorter. Only external fuel pump broken frequent not the original stock fuel pump. Your fuel pump is still working, even though the engine is not running. oh yes this remind me of something, i always will turn my key to on position for a couple of sec before ignite my engine, reason is i will let the fuel pump to pump up the fuel before it is let to fire off. this will oso helps to prolong ur fuel pump. yes i always pump my fuel when it is 1/4 full. no only it helps to keep fuel pump good, oso you neber noe when u cannot find ur petrol station (if you go malaysia or i urgent matter you forget to refuel...) :) ↡ Advertisement
