Yeobh 4th Gear March 31, 2010 Share March 31, 2010 (edited) So long as the surface damage is only on the rubber and no tyre cord is being exposed, the tyre is still safe to use. Edited March 31, 2010 by Yeobh
Salmon 1st Gear March 31, 2010 Share March 31, 2010 Do you suggest I use super glue like TS?
Yeobh 4th Gear March 31, 2010 Share March 31, 2010 Tyreman use rubber compound which is consists of rubber and curing chemicals. By mixing them together and placing the mixture into the damage areas, overtime the mixture will cure and form part of the tyre seamlessly.
Jchuacl Clutched April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 Some of the high performance tyres comes with steel components for the sidewall. There are no steel component in tyre sidewall. Steel only exist at the tread and perhaps bead.
Octopus 3rd Gear April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 (edited) Really? Didn't know that passenger tyre got steel in sidewall, wouldn't it be uncomfortable for street usage? Are those tyre with steel in sidewall design for cars, or for some construction/military vehicle? Can quote me which brand and model tyre comes with steel reinforcement at sidewall? Thanks. Yeobh 4th Gear April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 There are two type of cords used in manufacturing tyres either steel wire or cotton cord. Steel wire cords are widely used until they are replace by cotton type. Very low profile tyres need more reinforcement at side walls and therefore cotton cords may not provide sufficient support against rolling and twisting forces. Jchuacl Clutched April 5, 2010 Share April 5, 2010 From what I know from my regular tyre shop, the Bridgestone high end tyres (re070, re-01r, re-11) comes with it. They found it out through customers' damaged sidewalls which exposed the material. In the tyre specification, there is no mention of steel components. Now I understand why the sidewalls of the BS tyres are so hard compared with other brands of tyres. I believe that AD08 also comes with it as well (I vaguely read about it from somewhere). Really? Yeobh 4th Gear April 6, 2010 Share April 6, 2010 Welcome. In the early 80's tyres with steel wire cords were advertised as " Steel Belt". At that time 65 series were considered low profile.

You're right, AD08 do have steel reinforcement at sidewall. I wonder if the steel reinforcement are wiremesh like or a thin piece of metal.... ↡ Advertisement
