Antwong007 Neutral Newbie April 21, 2010 Share April 21, 2010 Hope people realise that this is the most risky time to buy a car whether new or used as dealers and owners are now asking for ridiculous price. As matter of fact, even dealers are worried when they are quoting cars now as they do not have a clear picture of the COE movement due to too much speculation. I feel that LTA is too be held responsible for the sharp movement for COE which has caused so much uncertainty in the automotive industry. This is allowing the minorities to benefit for speculation of Open Cat and also people who own a newer second car. The rich definitely has become richer now. The middle income who is seeking to own a car will now have to bear with the price hike, like it or not, and could suffer later when COE goes down due to higher quota when the population of car is controlled. My suggestion to LTA is that the reduction of COE should be gradual ie if 10,000 cars are dereg for the past quarter LTA should release 5-10% more COE on top of that figure instead of strictly recycling the no. of cars dereg. I dunno if 5-10% is a reasonable figure as opposed to the car population target , it could be 1%-5% but I will leave it to the LTA to decide whats best. I am just saying that implementation of New Policy should not be impulsive and rigid. I really thought that LTA should have consulted the industry experts and publics for opinion before implementing such drastic policy. Really, it came all sudden even for a dealer myself could not have forseen and accept such changes. I definitely have benefitted from the situation but I still think this is not the best way to control the car population as we are not fair to the lower and middle people who is seeking to own a car liked the wealthier. Hope someone agrees with my point here. ↡ Advertisement

Then what is fair? Ballot aka lucky draw? If lower and middle income people wants to own a car, then please work harder/smarter to earn more money to afford new cars, otherwise, go for cheaper old cars or OPC! Antwong007 Neutral Newbie April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 The price hilke would not have happened if they have consulted industry experts... see... And I think you must either be a used car sales person who is benefitting from the increaseed sales or some rich noob not to understand my point. Look at the used car prices now.... how can we afford when those complete idiot dealers increase price whenever COE shoots up. Think again now! Jamesc Hypersonic April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 (edited) I really thought that LTA should have consulted the industry experts and publics for opinion before implementing such drastic policy. If the LTA consulted the public, this is the answer they would have got. I want the price of my old car to be shy high and the price of my new car to be dirt cheap. Or I want the COE to be low when I am buying MY car but super high so that others cannot buy cos no point own a car and everyday the roads are all jammed up with too many cars! Same answer for housing: I want my hdb to get a good price so I can sell and buy a condo that is priced really low. Or We newly married couples want cheap prices for our first home so that we can make babies the gov keep asking us to have. Or We are retiring soon and our kids have got married and moved out so we want a good price for our big flat and a low price for the smaller flat we intend to buy. So COE price too high or too low depends on whether you are buying a car or sitting in a jam. Edited April 22, 2010 by Jamesc

Fishman 1st Gear April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 And I think you must either be a used car sales person who is benefitting from the increaseed sales or some rich noob not to understand my point. Look at the used car prices now.... how can we afford when those complete idiot dealers increase price whenever COE shoots up. Think again now! You are wrong... I am neither a used car sales person or a rich noob as you call it. In the mid nineties when COE averaged $40-50K and a humble Civic costs $100K and my pay was less than $2K pm, I talked like you too, until I realised that a car is indeed a luxury good. Everyday when I took the MRT passing by Leng Kee, I told myself: "If you want it, then you gotta work hard for it! Too bad your old man is no rich towkay." Turn your unproductive ENVY into constructive MOTIVATION, that is what I'm trying to say.

Zacxaviqer 1st Gear April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 This is not the time to go in and flood the market. Like one of the bro here says, just a month ago, the COE was at least $5 -10k lower than the current price and pple already complaining that the price is too high. But suddenly because COE drop slightly, they are fine to go in to purchase that piece of paper. It's all in the mind of the consumer. A month ago, COE price continue to rise and therefore pple think the COE price are ridiculous. Now that COE price started to dipped slightly and pple began to think that with the current COE price, it's a good time to enter the fray. Seriously, COE price is still very high despite the drop so guys, hold yr horses for now
Antwong007 Neutral Newbie April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 First of all you sound just liked a great follower of PAP and the government which is fine. Secondly, you really did not get m point on the COE. I am asking that LTA can be moderate about their policy change. Think most people can accept COE increase bt that should be something that is gradual and not an instrment for speculaion. As you can see , it has gone down on the last bid. If the demand is really so strong, why did COE come down. The increase is mostly the fault of sudden drop of supply which could have been moderated. You really need to be objective here. Dun get emotional. We all love to own a car but should not be a victim now or in the future of COE price. ↡ Advertisement
