Karu 6th Gear April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 Agree... wait for the backlogs of the AD to clear & they have few new orders... then the coe will normalize... hopefully to at least around $15K... ↡ Advertisement

Yenyenpark 1st Gear April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 still got $15K COE mei?? I don't believe.. I used to believe there will have $2 COE, or less than $5k COE.. but the more u wait, the more u disappointed.. the dealers already said, the reasonable price will be $30k to$ 40k.. meaning they will bid around this price.. they are so many dealers around, they don't afford NOT to bid for the COE.. $15k? very hard lor.. $20k to $25k is reasonable for me personally.. Jamesc Hypersonic April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 This is not the time to go in and flood the market. Like one of the bro here says, just a month ago, the COE was at least $5 -10k lower than the current price and pple already complaining that the price is too high. But suddenly because COE drop slightly, they are fine to go in to purchase that piece of paper. It's all in the mind of the consumer. A month ago, COE price continue to rise and therefore pple think the COE price are ridiculous. Now that COE price started to dipped slightly and pple began to think that with the current COE price, it's a good time to enter the fray. Seriously, COE price is still very high despite the drop so guys, hold yr horses for now "It's all in the mind of the consumer. " You are exactly right bro! Jamesc Hypersonic April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 First of all you sound just liked a great follower of PAP and the government which is fine. Secondly, you really did not get m point on the COE. I am asking that LTA can be moderate about their policy change. Think most people can accept COE increase bt that should be something that is gradual and not an instrment for speculaion. As you can see , it has gone down on the last bid. If the demand is really so strong, why did COE come down. The increase is mostly the fault of sudden drop of supply which could have been moderated. You really need to be objective here. Dun get emotional. We all love to own a car but should not be a victim now or in the future of COE price. I am a follower of human psychology, economics and how greed and fear moves prices. The truth is it is impossible to moderate prices. If people buy when prices are low and sell when prices are high, the market is self correcting with stable prices. But people don't buy when its low, they buy when its high thinking it was go higher. In Japan they have deflation - people don't buy now thinking next week it will be cheaper, it becomes a self fulfilling event that prices fall because there is less demand. Maybe you should be replying to Fishman, he has some great points.
Laworder17 1st Gear April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 Hope people realise that this is the most risky time to buy a car whether new or used as dealers and owners are now asking for ridiculous price. As matter of fact, even dealers are worried when they are quoting cars now as they do not have a clear picture of the COE movement due to too much speculation. I feel that LTA is too be held responsible for the sharp movement for COE which has caused so much uncertainty in the automotive industry. This is allowing the minorities to benefit for speculation of Open Cat and also people who own a newer second car. The rich definitely has become richer now. The middle income who is seeking to own a car will now have to bear with the price hike, like it or not, and could suffer later when COE goes down due to higher quota when the population of car is controlled. My suggestion to LTA is that the reduction of COE should be gradual ie if 10,000 cars are dereg for the past quarter LTA should release 5-10% more COE on top of that figure instead of strictly recycling the no. of cars dereg. I dunno if 5-10% is a reasonable figure as opposed to the car population target , it could be 1%-5% but I will leave it to the LTA to decide whats best. I am just saying that implementation of New Policy should not be impulsive and rigid. I really thought that LTA should have consulted the industry experts and publics for opinion before implementing such drastic policy. Really, it came all sudden even for a dealer myself could not have forseen and accept such changes. I definitely have benefitted from the situation but I still think this is not the best way to control the car population as we are not fair to the lower and middle people who is seeking to own a car liked the wealthier. Hope someone agrees with my point here. I got your point... The reduction is too sudden i have to agree on that.

I agree with you bro....20-25k is the most reasonable price to have now. Anything lower deem not possible. Most of the AD are bidding at 28k for Cat A. From what i will see...ppls will still hold on and wait to see the next few round...if there is a downward or stablising trend...ppls will then start to come in. I will think a more acceptable range is around 30~40K.
KayPoh Neutral Newbie April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 i think the prices will go up..think it's now or never liao.. Skali like the property prices, up and never go down.. then later cry father cry mother also no use because car is a luxury not a necessity. BM drop price to as much as 10K.. for those who top up ... pityful... for those who did not top up... lucky happy !!... all becos of BM way of doing business.. they are responsible for the high jump too... becos they did not bid any during the CNY period... so suddenly they bid full force last month so suddenly COE shoot up... make sense ? EU12D Neutral Newbie April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 Finally!! Just got through the 3rd bid and got it this time But I have this issue with Mazda and felt they are not doing justice to the customer. In the first bid, they placed it at $27,889 and was $500 short of the actual price. Subsequently, the COE went crazy and they asked customer to top up. You know what, they adjusted their base line for COE bidding to $24,888 instead of from their last unsuccessful bid. I am a first time car owner (woman) and don't know if this is how the other car companies do it. I ended up topping up $4,112 to get through this round of COE bidding. It's like day light robbery, compared this $30,000 COE to the first bid where the COE was $28,389 where Mazda was originally short of $500 to secure the bid. And my purchase price different is $4,112, should be just $1,611 ($30,000 - $28,389) This will be the one and only time that I will buy from Mazda!!! I thinking of getting a used car at 50k with 5k coe and 15k omv mar/07, or similar model 07/Dec 56k with 13k coe & 14k omv which one is a better choice? please advice
Darthrevan Supercharged April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 You are wrong... I am neither a used car sales person or a rich noob as you call it. In the mid nineties when COE averaged $40-50K and a humble Civic costs $100K and my pay was less than $2K pm, I talked like you too, until I realised that a car is indeed a luxury good. Everyday when I took the MRT passing by Leng Kee, I told myself: "If you want it, then you gotta work hard for it! Too bad your old man is no rich towkay." Turn your unproductive ENVY into constructive MOTIVATION, that is what I'm trying to say. I agree with you! ↡ Advertisement
