On purpose or unintentional, you can be sure of 1 thing - it was an honest one.

So move on.

Hope that the satellite would be hit by an asteroid or space debris and upset the new ERP system....

Then somehow or another we have to pay for this natural disaster, remember the someone ever ever say the money definitely have to come out from somewhere....

It just reconfirm my vote.

With this new system i reckon that the businesses in johor might pick up. More people will sure hop over to johor on the weekend to do their goceries shopping and at the same time enjoy their "ride" without feeling been monitor ah gong. [drivingcar]

Don't be fool by the government. If they are able to monitor our usage on the road its also imply they can track where we park. They can change the current parking system to GPS base. [smash] No more cheating of 5 or 10 min with the coupon's timing. [bigcry]

The concept of GPS-tracking should not even be allowed to be trialled or applied to a specific segment of the car population. First get their foot in the door, then slowly expand it until everyone is tracked. My guess is that there will be sweeteners and baits to get people to accept it, perhaps COE/road tax rebates, etc, until the trap springs shut.

But then again, we are tracked one way or another, on and off, in our day to day activity. For example, your entry in and out of your office may be tracked by you entering the carpark, or buzzing into your office with your keycard. You pass nearby an ERP gantry, it may "interrogate" your IU and then you would be recorded to have been nearby that area at a specific time. You use your credit card, you're traceable. You use the ATM card, traceable too. With your EZLink card, where you've been is simply a matter of digging up the wealth of information that is probably stored somewhere in SBSTransit and SMRT.

GPS will not work well because tunnel or city area with high rise building will block the signal. Become free when moving inside cbd.

Heard of the new iPhone4 with the new gyroscope technology incorporated? With this it solves the receiver in tunnel issue. I foresee future GPS receiver will come with this technology as a standard feature.

I see a flaw here. Does this mean the fastest we get to our destination lower the charges. Timing or mileage base. If former than there will be many family sedan driving like performance car. Mileage base than i can see many will opt for open carpark rather than MSCP.

What am i talking here! me getting abit paranoid. [bigcry]

maybe the new system can put money back into our cash card [laugh] [laugh]

I would like to see ERP that collects money on congested roads & ERP that gives money on non-congested roads. [laugh]

This should ensure that many vehicles take the longer road. Just need to iron out the kinks.

Looks like its cumming....

THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) will soon call for tender to invite industry players to submit technical proposals for a second generation Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system, Transport Minister Raymond Lim said on Wednesday.

He said LTA has been studying various technology applications and has identified a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) as one of these which makes use of satellites to determine the position of a vehicle.

Announcing this in his keynote address to the World Urban Transport Leaders Summit 2010 on Wednesday morning, Mr Lim, who is also the Second Foreign minister, said: 'The LTA will be conducting various technical tests to evaluate if the latest technologies available in the market today are accurate and effective enough for use as a congestion charging tool, especially taking into consideration the dense urban environment in Singapore.

'We expect the development and testing of new ERP technologies that are suitable for Singapore's conditions to take some years, before it is ready to be launched and implemented.'

Mr Lim said since the ERP system was implemented in 1998, it has been functioning on a gantry-based system, which charges motorists as they pass under these gantries when they are in operation.

'This system has served us well. However, as the number of vehicles on our roads increases over the longer term, congestion will become more extensive. It may become impractical to continue installing ever more physical gantries to manage congestion.

'We will therefore have to explore other solutions that would enable a more effective approach to implement congestion pricing which will help reduce the dependence on physical gantries.'

In his speech, the minister added that the government is also looking into the development and use of green technologies in Singapore, and is test-bedding clean technologies in the transport sector.

Examples include energy efficient lighting for traffic and street lights, recycled materials for road pavement construction, and construction methods that minimise the impact on the environment.

===============

I think the REAL reason why they want to do away with the gantries is cos they intend to charge ERP for almost the whole of SG & it wil b very embarrasing when tourists ask pple what are all those gantries all over SG & the reply wil b something like: they r put up by our beloved gharmen to suck the blood of the motorists dry.

This day will come. Just a matter of time. Our gahment is very darn efficient when it comes to making money out of us folks.

=============

Now our & MY gharmen getting very buddy buddy, I wait for the day we wil see ERP gantries in Johor to "tax" SG cars when going there. [sweatdrop][:|][furious]

It'll cumm after erection....

=============

Thats why must think very carefully when we vote if we want to pay more for so many things. Pay our ministers more $$$ & not have any say about the problems faced by us.

Cos as we all know by now, the heavy axe wil fall only after they get their 5 more years to suck our blood.

I wud really like to see more Opposition members in Parliment who wil genuinely fight for our welfare & happiness.
