Karoon Turbocharged July 11, 2010 Share July 11, 2010 i think its hard enough for hobby cyclists here. i cycle regularly but to be absolutely safe the only good timings are mornings around 4 to 6 am and weekends. even on weekends when we leave at 4am with bright front and rear lights we risk being mowed down by drunks after a night out. Which other sport forces you to adapt to crazy times just to practise? some of us train for competitions and need the speed, so we can't be on ecp all the time. At 40kmh if we knock down a person it becomes news. even on our weekend rides motorists are not forgiving. there are times when the group takes up one whole lane of changi coast road (its the peloton's strategy), but its only weekend mornings and even then motorists blare their horns. You're rushing to work on a sunday morning along changi coast road? There's a whole lane for you to pass by. Quit being so tight-bummed. we've (road cyclists, not those chinamen/bangla cowboys) sacrificed quite a bit, yet all motorists do are complain. ↡ Advertisement
Seaweed 1st Gear July 11, 2010 Share July 11, 2010 if one day when they knock you down..or crash into your bumper...and you still believe in gracious...then i got no choice but to agree with you !!! there is a limit to being gracious....
Seaweed 1st Gear July 11, 2010 Share July 11, 2010 ya...on sunday early morning..coastal rd and nicoll highway are quite good place for fast cycling....cyclist can take one whole lane without obstructing any traffic...if under this kind of situation and yet the motorist honked at you all....humm...damm big ego at work....and yes on a sunday morning....unless he/she had a past experience of cyclist's dangerous move which got them into trouble then it maybe the only valid reason.... Wind30 Turbocharged July 11, 2010 Share July 11, 2010 More local cyclists killed in road accidents By Shaffiq Alkhatib | Posted: 11 July 2010 1505 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SINGAPORE: Seven local cyclists lost their lives in road accidents in Singapore between January and May this year. The number is more than double the three persons killed in the same period last year. To promote safe cycling, the Traffic Police is organising clinics with a group of volunteers known as the Safe Cycling Task Force. These are conducted at community clubs and grassroots events to reach out to cyclists in the neighbourhoods. In line with this initiative, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, urged cyclists to be properly attired and adopt good cycling behaviour. This includes maintaining lane discipline and using hand signals. He was speaking at the launch of the annual Road Safety Outreach and Road Safety Campaign. Associate Professor Ho also said that there were no fatalities involving foreign workers on bicycles during the first five months of this year. In the same period last year, there were three fatalities. Associate Professor Ho attributed this decrease to Traffic Police's road safety initiatives to educate foreign workers. The authorities have been working closely with dormitories and employers to reach out to foreigners, while the Traffic Police will press on with educational efforts and enforcement action. - CNA/ir
Happily1986 5th Gear July 12, 2010 Share July 12, 2010 they ring to give u a warning that they are coming. if you do iot siam or walk to their path, they will knock u down and that become your business already as they have alreay given u the warning. What kind of rationale is that? That having furnishing a warning of sorts gives absolves you of any negativity in knocking someone down? Please stay off the roads as you are a danger to any other roadusers if you are driving. So if you have honked as a driver, it is okay to crash into another individual with your car? People endeavour to avoid accidents and here you are, sort of justifying the "intent" to knock into people.
Krado Clutched July 12, 2010 Share July 12, 2010 What kind of rationale is that? If I sound horn, I can travel at 200km/h. You don't give way? Your problem loh.
Oregon 1st Gear July 12, 2010 Share July 12, 2010 Just treat any bicycle on the road as a road vehicle and your frustration is gone. It's all in the mind. As a good driver, it's your responsibility to ensure the safety of your vehicle occupants as well as other road users, not whine about how the entire world should revolve around you. The truth is, no matter how one cry or wail about rogue cyclists, drivers, buses, cabs or pedestrians, you can't control them all. The one and only person you can control 100% and made any difference is you yourself. Instead of cursing and swearing at anyone that slows you down on the road, think about how you can make a safe overtaking maneuver and execute it and move on with your life. Regardless of why they are slow or any reasons, just remember they also got a family like you. Do your part to keep everybody safe. Hey - you are THE ZEN MASTER! I agree with you 110%. This thread people complaining about cyclist. Another thread its goods vehicles....there is no end to this. Just concentrate on being best driver you can be. RunForrest Neutral Newbie July 16, 2010 Share July 16, 2010 Yap. it's all in the mind. Most drivers are impatient. Hard to change. The fault lies with the cars. designed to run too fast.
Scoots 3rd Gear August 31, 2010 Share August 31, 2010 (edited) So, on Anak Bkt flyover, is cyclist allow on overpass or underpass? I am open to any suggestion or POV. Been away from this board for awhile .... my POV is that cyclists should obey traffic rules. If the rules allow them on the overpass, they should ride on the overpass. If the rules allow them on the underpass, they should ride on the underpass. Clear enough? Edited August 31, 2010 by Scoots
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear September 2, 2010 Share September 2, 2010 This morning while i was driving up 99 bend. After exit, i saw 2 cyclist occupy the 3rd lane. Side by side, machiam their father's road. Stop at the traffic light, then slowly cycle off. Everyone driving or riding need to siam them. Then when reach holland road, WORSE! 1 stupid angmo woman cyclist, stop her bicycle at the middle lane, While waiting for the traffic light! Then when green light, she was cycling 10km/h at the same lane! CCB! These cyclists are simply so selfish! [furious] Foreign talents from countries where they lack urban cycling exposure?
