I am guessing since he is upgrading means he most likely only have time to go night-classes and kaplan are one of the only few that market themselves more to the general public hence it caught TS eyes which prompted him to ask whether kaplan is a good degree or not.

Kaplan's known more for fast track degrees...generally completed within under 20 months.

I think the important question to ask is how recognised is the University that your degree is from, thats the MAIN question.

The general opinion is: If it's a fast-track degree and not a full-time programme, it's generally perceived as not a good qualification.

That said, there are some part-time programmes that are very well-recognised. But these are more often than not programmes that are ONLY available in part-time. And they're usually professional qualifications, like MBA, eMBA, etc.

So in a nutshell, most part-time degrees are not well-recognised, and at best, not well-respected.

There are some Masters programmes from selected institutions that are good. From my understanding, Kaplan is not one of them. But heard their CFA lvl 1 courses are good, but that's a little off-topic.

i'm a graduate of one of the programs offered at Kaplan.

i'm not sure about other programs, or which program you are interested in, but mine appears to be recognized. the university that issued the diploma recognizes me as a full graduate from their school and has extended an invitation for me to do a PhD program at their campus in Australia.

on one hand, having the certificate opens more doors for anyone. but most employers don't care if its fast track or traditional 4-year route because at the end of the day it's your abilities and capabilities that matter. in fact some employers go as far to say that because you are able to study while working, shows that you have good attitude and aptitude, as well as multitasking ability.

however, do note that not all government agencies recognize part-time degrees, especially when you are applying to lecture. i have over 10 years solid industry experience, but when i applied for a lecturing position at a local polytechnic, the dean said she could not fight HR to take me in.

other than that, i've got a strong resume to back up my university degree and i'm consider myself very employable, so i say it's a balance of both educational and work experiences.

In house diplomas are usually not recognised.... however degrees usually are.

However your best bet is to check the MOE website and see if the affiliated university or rather the awarding university

is listed on the recognised list. If it is your pretty safe .... if not better dont waste your money.

Last but not least check on your own dont just rely on the sales depts word of mouth. They're more interested in your $$$

Level 1 shouldn't be too hard for most ppl. It's L2 and 3 that are hard.

Most recent exam's passing rate = 46%. More than half didn't get their CFA this time round.

ask for the degree cert and transcript...

1st question. isit the same as awarded on campus?

2nd question. Is the degree recognised by moe etc? or engineering deg by PE board?

3rd Q. If recognised... How's the standing of the school. Some uni although recognised by the brand name is smelly already... eg curtin etc... in general singaporean employers don't really see oz degree up
