Vulcann 6th Gear August 30, 2010 Share August 30, 2010 Was travelling along Jalan Besar this morning towards city when a notice at the right side of the rear windscreen of a white Renault Kangoo van GBB 7**4T caught my eye . It stated: If you wish to overtake this van. Don't think!! Go ahead!! Do it carefully. Elderly Driver Any folks saw this van before? Could it be he was traumatised previously or it was a simple plea to excuse him on the roads? Whatever it is, I think we should show some basic road courtesy like signalling early or overtaking at a safe distance to others at all times. ↡ Advertisement

We have many elderly drivers on the roads so it's always good to call on people to cut them some slacks. I feel bad when I see those 60-70 yrs old taxi drivers struggling in the early morning traffic. You are right that we should always drive safely and courteously on the roads. RadX Moderator August 30, 2010 Share August 30, 2010 My thoughts are they should not even be on the roads anymore...and can actually cause accidents due to 1. failing eyesight....catarcts 2. Slow reaction 3. Slow mechanical reaction... I fear for them....
Thestig Clutched August 30, 2010 Share August 30, 2010 If they are all as humble enough to indicate that they are elderly drivers then I will certainly be willing to overlook their transgressions on the roads.

If you are kidding with us, this is ticklish I believe many of them need to drive for one reason or another (look at the cost of living here: can not afford no regular income). Liklely the only method of earning a honest living for them, unless others can sponsor them financially
Tom_kkh 1st Gear August 30, 2010 Share August 30, 2010 perhaps there should be a sticker of some sort...or some LED indicator...i will stay farrrrrrrrr from them yes, lets hope there are stickers or plates, like P plates or handicapped stickers, for all elderly drivers, compulsory too. For the safety of all.

Don't know anyone around me who are confident and secure in their jobs. Anything can happen and especially when you least expects it.

I have encountered one elderly man who stopped, (yes, stopped) in the middle of a busy 4 lane road and he was looking around, searching for some building or signs. Yes, I fear for them too. Yes, I fear for them too. I've been forced to do emergency stop in the middle lane on the expressway twice. Luckily did not get bang from behind. Both times I've drove pass to see old auntie and old uncle fumbling to insert their cash cards before the ERP gantries. Incredible but what can you do. Hopefully the driver is able to drive properly. I have encountered elderly drivers who are not able to see the front clearly. So they leave a huge gap in front and when I overtake them, I can see their facial expressions that they were straining to look ahead.
