Hi guys,

Need some advice

Recently my friend just got into a accident and 100% claim against the other party. His rear boot/bumper damaged badly. And exo no problem.

Here come the question i need to know.

Due to the other party never take any photo, the workshop make a dent on the exo too and claim together. Means now my friend got new boot, bumper and exo!

He request to take back the old exo. But the workshop dun allow.

R we allow to take back the exo? Or is belong to the workshop? Im in doubt... Btw, new pc cost 1.6k.

Sound like some fishy work from workshop to purposely damage the exo & add a new exo to the claim, if my understanding of your message is correct.

Even if the genuiely damage the exo, they ethnically should not to make claim for the exo, but fork out the new exo from their own pocket, as they are the one that damage it. What happen to the 7 core values we learn in NS?

By my understanding, you are not allow to take back old parts when make claim. This is insurance policy to prevent driver making profit (by selling away old parts) from accident (to prevent people make false claim, or purposely get into accident to gain profits).

If owner cant take back? Means thw workshop can keep it and sell off to make profit? Or insurance co pany will take back the damage parts?

That is a good question. I think technically the parts belong to insurance company, as they paid for the repair (however one may argue that they may pay high excess & the parts shouldn't fully belong to insurance company). They may be agreement for the workshop to keep the parts.

However, if true, then there may be case of workshop over declaring damages in order to make profit from old parts, & I fracnkly don't think insurance company cares either.

Anyway, Singapore very "dark" one when it comes to insurance claim, I think most will agreed. I personally got bad experience with the other party making very extortionally claims. Money is the root of all evil. Thankfully I also meet some nice people, but I think the latter is more exception than norm.

pls report the workshop to the insurers. All this nonsense has got to come to light and be stopped. In the end we are just biting our own backsides if we as drivers/car owners continue to let such shady practices continue!
