Suction pad problem

Hi all,

I have this Garmin GPS that comes original in-car mounting, the suction pad type. The suction works by a lever to enable the action. Couple of times, the whole thing dislodges itself, usually after a few days. I suspect it cud be due to the tint film, heat, or faulty pad. Anyone has the same experience as me? Any proposed solution to fix this?

Its happened to me a few times. I jus re-seal with a little water on the suction pad itself before sticking on the windscreen. It seems to dislodge itself whenever parked under direct sunlight.

Usually due to heat.

There could be dust on the glass or suction pad, the best is to use alcohol to wipe both glass and suction area, if not water lo.

But not a long term solution, mine also will drop esp parked under hot sun days.

I am using the Papago GPS model R6600. Bought it at Challenger. Really neat product.

The suction is very good. It has a clip that enforces the suction rather than sticking it on the windscreen. Have parked my car under the direct sun and encounter no problem.

My surveillance camera uses the normal type of suction and appears to have the same problem. I will wipe the area of the suction and the windscreen with wet tissue before re-sticking it on. But if parked under the hot sun, it will drop off and have to redo it all over again.

I hope to find the suction that has an enforcement clip similar to that of my Papago GPS.

It would be best to remove any electronic gadgets when parked under the hot sun as it will damage the electronic components.

Cheers. Hope this helps. [:)]

suck too hard may not be gd also.. my onboard car cam's suction is power.. to the extent it forms a bubble between the solar film and glass.

Yup, i agree..it should not hold onto so much to your windscreen that can lead to that kind of disastrous effect. [sweatdrop]

it's normal, happens to me too. parked in the sun for too long..the Garmin suction pad inside the air will expand and it will just drop on the dashboard every few days, no choice just re-attached again

i also have this problem with my in-car-camera FH500 (the upside down holder).

Can't last a single day under the hot sun.

I had re-modify it to using VELCRO (Industrial type). So far so good. 3 days already under the hot sun.

Still going strong. Camera will not be shaky. Very very stable.

2 pieces of 10cm by 5cm in the box. Cost S$7.90 (VELCRO, Industrial Strength) from DIY Home-fix shop.

It can actually be used for 2 sets of FH500.

Hope this info helps
