How about Siemens. Their SL45i is the best non colour phone IMO, comes with MP3 player and java. Big screen and can install games, no other phones can do it if not wrong. Using MMC card.

just to share.

was using a N73 some 5 yrs ago, it just discharges itself automatically and burns your thigh in the process. took it back to service centre 4 times and they could not fix it. they own service engineers also face the same problem, and i think that they see that the warranty is almost over, took their time to hang on to my phone and told me repaired. i have to return to them 4 times in a row and last service, they told me that my warranty is over and will need to charge me for the inspection + repair cost. WTF

You are aware that IDA forbids SIM locking or carrier lock? Singapore got one of the most free and open phone markets in the world not even USA can compete lol... So the only thing the telcos can do are exclusive sales for specific products.

Actually most of the users of Iphone are the current generation of folks in their 40s and below. The market for normal phones are for the older folks who mostly dont know how to use new technology and dont see the need for it.

I personally dont use Iphone for the primary reason of Apple branding who are extremely protective of their products. Even a piece of extension power cable cannot buy 3rd party lor. So lame.

same here

i dont use iphone

but i really envy apple thinking

Talking about phones........and progress/improvements........

The main use for phone as it intended to be, is to make and receive calls.

Most phones and smartphones fail badly now as most have far lousier reception and clarity compared to the old black and white era mobile phones.

u r so wrong...there r still plenty of countries who do not enjoy cheap mobile plans especially data plans like developed countries do.

singaporeans r using iphones do not mean there is no demand for keypad phones elsewhere.

just like ppl here r using 1TB harddisk doesnt mean 160GB harddisk are not in demand...be surprised countries like India, SE Asias are still buying them haha.

those are the backwater countries with lower buying power and volume

Still using a Nokia E75 here and will be using it till the thing falls apart, which if the build quality is anything to go by, will take a damn long time :D I view iPhones like Ferraris - looks nice to have, but 95% of its features would be useful to me about 1% of the time. The only things that I look for in my phones are battery life (why oh why didn't I get the E71...), robust build quality, doesn't hang day in day out and performs what it was meant to do - call, sms and maybe check email on the go once in a while. And although I see plenty of iPhone users out there (it's fine, as long as they don't start yapping like Apple fanbois), there are still a lot of people using cheap Nokias if you look closely. Not every needs or has the means to get a smartphone and change it year in year out. Hell, I've still got an old Nokia 8850 and I'm looking for a rare black colour 8855 for keeps, but nobody sells these things anymore. And the successor to the 8855, the Arte series, doesn't quite have the same feel although I'd still rather spend my money on a Carbon Arte than an iPhone or Galaxy S...

Kangadrool is right in saying that reception and call quality sucks nowadays, but I think the problem doesn't lie with the phone manufacturers but the telcos themselves - they've been cutting costs left right and centre... The call quality on my 8850 is no better than my E75's.

Anyone remember the Philip Xeniums? I think there was one model that could run off AAA batteries in addition to its own lithium ion battery and its standby time was measured in MONTHS. :D
