Wind30 Turbocharged October 9, 2020 Share October 9, 2020 (edited) we did not try to DSA to St Nicholas or any of the second tier girl school because she wanted to try to get into RGS. I think the top school is still RI/RGS and HCI/Nayang depending on whether you are english Ed or Chinese Ed. It is a big risk though as the cut off between RGS and St nics is not that far apart. A screw up in PSLE could mean you end up in like SCGS or worse. But accepting a DSA to St Nics means you have zero chance to try for RGS in PSLE. Honestly, I don't really have any idea how high is 260 in PSLE nowadays... so now is just pray my girl did well enough to get into RGS. Yes, my son's classmate in Primary 6 last year actually DSA into NJC thinking that he would not make it into HCI. But his PSLE results more than enough to enter HCI, too late to u-turn. 260 nowadays is considered bonderline if the kid wants to enter RI/RGS/HCI/NYG. For HCI/NYG, if both kids scored 260, they will take the one with higher chinese.

EESIS... first time reading about it. Not bad prize for high PSLE scores, $2400. RGS school fees is $300 a month???? wow... crazy. I thought it is $11.50/month or something PR is $710 for PRs... $1530 for Foreigners.... Honestly, I am not sure how those schools are spending the money but they should keep the costs down... at the end of the day, it is the students that count. I was part of the move to Bishan campus for RI and we joke during my time was the carpet grass must have cost a lot... Why do we need carpet grass??? RI school fees was already 200 dollars/month in early 1990s. Yes reduced down if u have edusave bursary. My younger cousin went to HC cos he may not be eligible for the bursary if he applied for RI. Nowadays besides ESIS, there're also bursaries for independent school students. E.g. the Independent School Bursary and UPLIFT scholarships. https://beta.moe.gov.sg/uploads/MOE-ISB-Application-Form.pdf https://beta.moe.gov.sg/fees-assistance-awards-scholarships/awards-scholarships/uplift-scholarships/ In addition, I heard that some schools like RI have their own internal scholarships, separate from MOE ones that are sponsored by their alumni. I believe HCI also have similiar programs. So there are many outlets to aid the able but financially-challenged students to enrol in independent schools. Anyway this yr is still relatively simple to make the 6 options. Come next yr, not only will the AL scheme be totally new, even the order of your 6 options matters. That one is really stressful. Why is MOE encouraging speculation of Sec Sch COP? 😂

For HCI/NYG, if both kids scored 260, they will take the one with higher chinese. I guess 260 will belong to the lower end of the spectrum in these 4 schools. I think the median will be somewhere around 265. I recall visiting this open house a few years back. My guide was very cute - he said he scored 265 and was put in the sports class coz 265 was not considered a high score in that sch. I had to stifled a laugh bcoz he really believed that 265 was not very good. Anyway I've a friend whose kid scored less than 250 but managed to DSA into one of the 4 schools you mentioned. Once in upper sec, his results raised to the top tier coz he was talented in Math and the Sciences and these 2 groups contributed grades for 5 subjects in upper Sec, unlike in PSLE. So it doesn't mean that if one is off the COP by a lot, then no hope. One friend's kid ended up representing sch for competition despite his relatively modest T-score.
