Thanks for the explanations guys. So it was point 2.

Another thing got me wondering…

since SG gov petrol tax is 40 %, why are our roads like ‘Fu*k? Shouldn’t we be driving on road paved as smooth as glass! Haha.

Smooth out the road, increase spending, increase tax, increase ERP. Worth it?

Thats wad our road tax are for, no? ERP, COE and PETROL TAX strictly speaking, should not have much to do with the quality of the road surfaces.

bro how old are you ah?.. Since when was it half tank??? [confused]

Half tank rule was enacted in 1989 before changing to 3/4 tank in Feb 1990 or 1991.

Those in their early 30s will not know.

If I am not wrong, the reason given was Air pollution. MY petrol quality not gd. It's polluted SG environment. Therefore we have 1/2 tank and 3/4 tank rule. Silly reasoning [hur]

Correct me if I am wrong. I was young during that time.

Air pollution is correct. But not MY petrol quality not good la.

It is more about Price affect the demand. If the people has cheaper source from MY, the higher price in SG will not reduce the local demand.

That was the reason given 20yrs ago.

I think that time, MY petrol is Leaded. And SG has started migrating to Leaded Free.

And therefore they use this excuses to implement 1/2 and 3/4 tank rule.

And then SG change the excuse again after MY also migrated to Leaded Free petrol.

The real reason is to ensure no Tax loss. We all know.

You are indeed too young...our gahmen no need to pussfoot around last time, just straightaway give the real reason ie tax collection will be reduced and also high tax on petrol meant to control car population...

Well, you go ask the gahment, even the F1 drivers are critical of our roads.... They complain that its very bumpy...... I travel on the road also feel it sucks big time.

lol f1 tolerance for bumps is low leh... you should really worry about the smoothness of our roads if the tank drivers complain about bumpy roads when they take their toys out for parades.

The amount of petrol and road taxes + COE that our gov squeeze from us, you would expect better roads.

Maybe some guy in LTA is pulling the same stunt as the SLA guy, that

Can someone kindly comment on why the 3/4 rule was implemented?

i can't remember if it was because

1) MY was making noise and SG came out with the rule.

2) or SG gov wanted to protect the local petrol industry.

I was just wondering if the reason the rule was setup was because of point 1.

Then it's time to scrape the rule because MY gov is happy to sell 97 petrol to us at unsubsidized rates.

if it was point 2..... ...... s--t.

Regards

Mal also make noise on other things, why didnt they do anything about it?? just some excuses to reduce tax loss on petrol...
