Selling Used Car

For more than 5 years car, dealer usually will trade in your ride using the remaining parf value.

Heard that there is more than this, that is car body value, dun get conned by these dealers.

How do you negotiate with the dealer on this?

Or how do we know where to find this info?

my suggestion is to check out sgcarmart used car section for car selling price around your model and age.

dealers will usually quote a few k to 10k below those selling price.

get a few quotations from various dealers to get a rough figure, then you negotiate a price around there to trade in your car.

trade-in price is definitely lower than price listed at the used car section.

if you are not urgent and dont mind meeting up with potential buyers frequently to view your car, you can list your car, pricing slightly lower than market price and slowly wait for buyer.

we cant price the used car just based on parf value. we have to follow the market demand as there is another component, fluctuating coe.

when it is high coe period, it is possible to price used car at slightly higher, so it is not just the remaining parf value.

r u taking loan fr him too? if not, go prepare a cashiers order and do the transfer yourself. its quite easy. however, if the dealer also help arrange loan, then $300 is fine. note the transfer fee is to LTA, not him.

yeah.. the loan is from the dealer. 1.88%. so the admin fee is a valid fee?

how about GST? i have not asked about GST yet, not wanting to sound noob and get carrot chopped the moment wrong qns come out of my mouth. is GST already included in the price they quote?

The admin fee in this instance is the fee you pay to the dealer for his service in facilitating the transaction. It is purely goodwill so the validity is between you and him.

GST does not applies here. Essentially for your portion, you are looking only at a few components. The agreed price with the seller, the 1st loan/finance installment, LTA transfer fee and his admin fee. And of course, your vehicle insurance.

If you are buying from an owner, the fees are already clear-cut. Just make sure it is really the owner you are buying from and not a dealer claiming "direct owner" in order to dispute liability should anything happen afterwards.

$300 for loan n transfer works is fair and 1.88% for used car is very good. there shd b no GST involved for used cars.

great! thanks for the clarifications. :D

anything else i should look out for? i will be viewing the car for the 1st time this weekend. have already checked extensively online what to check for buying a used car eg. gear box, ripples on body, rust/corrosion, different colour paintwork, engine oil n transmission oil colours, glass crack or scratch, various controls work, etc?

btw, the dealer is Peng Tat Credit. any feedback about them, particularly from bros who had dealed with them?

Didn't you already view the car prior before accepting? I would have thought that you were at the final stages of the transaction.

Make sure that it is really the owner's car and not one that is disguised as "an owner's car" who conveniently is always overseas and cannot be reached.

Check ownership details here.

For transfer fee, just key in the car number in the link below.

If you are new to cars and uncertain of how to evaluate its condition, ask for it to be sent for inspection at either AA/Vicom/STA. Fee is roughly $100+. You pay for this fee.

I recently sold my car..

1) I checked the similar model cars selling price from sgcarmart.

2) Checked couple of used car dealers, they offered 5K below the price being sold in sgcarmart.

3) Gave advt in sgcarmart with 2K above the price which i would accept

4) got calls from dealers, and sold the car in first 10 mins, could have sold it for 500$ more, but want to close the deal and the dealer was flexible for the handover date.

5) The price diff between approaching the car dealer and giving advt for sale gave me 6K more than what initially offered by the dealers, so better rather approaching them, make them to give you a call by spending a small fee at sgcarmart.

6) You can also try the quote.com.sg to get the appx price and to make the dealer bid for your car.

what williamyeo said is very true... and its a face...

transfer fee is compulsary for a 2nd hand car...

admin fee is total b-------t...

if u r taking a loan, they earn abt 2+% of the loan amt... which is quite substantial already...

and that is on top of the profit which they earn, which is the difference they bought the car for and sold to u...

also, if they refer insurance, also earn...

thus, pls make sure its 0... if not walk away...

there are many dealers out there waiting for ur business

Why don't you try to buy from direct owner? Usually it is in better condition and no cover up. Then get a agent to do the paper work for you. Very min amt depend on the loan you take. Admin charges about $200-$300 only. That what I did for my previous 2 cars.
