Cttan456 2nd Gear December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 Kia is no longer considered as a budget brand. Buyers of Kia cars are going for the high spec SX variant of every model and the SX variants has specs that surpass all their Japanese competitors and yet still selling at a lower price. Gone are the days when people buy Kia cars only because they are the cheapest with only basic features. This a major and very important shift in buyer perception and really it is one of the biggest success stories of this century. It is going the way of Samsung TVs and monitors but unfortunately the price might too....

I think the problem is that a lot of MIJ cars don't provide these options and features at all.. and SGreans are quite gadget crazy as seen from Sitex. Before C&C started doing this with KIA, traditionally most ADs in SG import almost bare car and install aftermarket items such as HU and alarm. Its the same story with PI... Even higher end car like Mark-X inside kosong 1... KIA is the only brand providing all the Factory options and toys for a car at B&B level. Proton_neutron 1st Gear December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 can be better for the features in the car.... take for example, what i'm expecting from the upcoming K5 for example, Exterior: Auto-on and levelling HID Headlamps, keyless entry and ignition, rear privacy windows (factory fitted), min 18inch rims, twin rear exhausts, ambient lighting (wing mirrors and door handles), wing mirror indicators, fog lamps Interior: Full leather interior, rear and rear side sunblinds, i-POD&USB connectivity w/ bluetooth function, dual-zone air-conditioning, twin front memory electric seats, multi-function steering w/ cruise control, audio control, paddle shifts, rear air-con vents.... Safety: 6 airbags, ABS, VSC, EBD, intelligent cruise control, lane keep assist.... [:p]
Cttan456 2nd Gear December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 Yes, the key is Factory options. No other brand provides such huge amount of factory options at this price and not even at 20-30K more. can be better for the features in the car.... take for example, what i'm expecting from the upcoming K5 for example, Exterior: Auto-on and levelling HID Headlamps, keyless entry and ignition, rear privacy windows (factory fitted), min 18inch rims, twin rear exhausts, ambient lighting (wing mirrors and door handles), wing mirror indicators, fog lamps Interior: Full leather interior, rear and rear side sunblinds, i-POD&USB connectivity w/ bluetooth function, dual-zone air-conditioning, twin front memory electric seats, multi-function steering w/ cruise control, audio control, paddle shifts, rear air-con vents.... [:p] Going through the e-brochure of the K5, it also comes with LED daytime running lights, LED wing mirror indicators,LED 3rd brake light, LED rear lamp clusters, static bending lights(shines in the direction you are turning to) There is also the panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, interior door mood lamps. cooled glove box.... I don't see it having auto levelling headlamps, rear screen and windows blinds, lane keep assist though. Anyway, there isn't any car with everything unless we are looking at luxury brands... Kia should improve on their quality though (rival those of German quality).... and be real generous with their factory options on the standard model....hehe.... now i sound a little too selfish and demanding??? But i believe Kia has what it takes to do abovementioned.... "The Power to Surprise".... [laugh]
Cttan456 2nd Gear December 2, 2010 Share December 2, 2010 Yeah you are asking for the impossible! German quality at these prices? Never! Frankly, I think the quality of Korean cars very good for its price.

Frankly, I think the quality of Korean cars very good for its price. cannot say never.... must always seek for improvement one..... and i think you've gotten it wrong.... rather, the workmanship (how the whole car is assembled) for Kia cars are great for the price.... but the quality is still downright you pay for what you get.... perhaps its just me that my standards are sky high.... Alfisti168 1st Gear December 2, 2010 Share December 2, 2010 (edited) So what's ur view on the Korean Renault? Fluence? Can buy? Conti plus Korean factory features...Power Combi? good power and performance, extremely comfortable seats, very good ride quality, spacious, good interior quality, but steering feel is really bullsh1t. I have experienced better steering feel in my daytona. the handling spoils the whole car. my 2 cents =) Edited December 2, 2010 by Alfisti168
Cttan456 2nd Gear December 3, 2010 Share December 3, 2010 (edited) Korean assembly standards are very good for its price and I agree the quality of the materials is what you pay for. There are more hard plastics, etc but I don't mind that with the 5 figure cash savings. I think some Jap cars has as much hard plastics too but without the lower price tag of Koreans. From my experiences of Hyundais and Kias of past, these hard plastics are of good quality and will easily last 10yrs without disintegrating. It may not feel good to the touch but it is hard wearing and who in the world is going to touch and feel dashboard and door panels? The only places that are touched besides the steering and gear knob are the armrests and that is already leather, vinyl, soft touch plastics. To each their own, but I don't mind hard plastics in places I don't need to touch if it means 5 figure savings The Renault Fluence, hmm made in Korea and correspondingly lower in cost, priced at a typical average price of a 1.6L Jap car. The most lavishly equipped 1.6L sedan below $100k. 6 airbags, dual zone a/c ( wow! 1st time in a C-segment car) rear a/c vents ( also 1st time in a C segment), very useful in Singapore. Value for money, just like Kia. The Forte is less well equipped but selling at a lower price. Straight line performance good for its class, 0-100kmh in 11secs for an auto(CVT) is very good. Ride, performance, handling and refinement is about par with the average Jap, Korean competitor but then again price is about par too but selling point is the lavish equipment and size 4620mm long and 1809mm wide, biggest in class. So you buy a car that is about the price of a Jap that can do all things as well and maybe slightly better but you get a bigger car with lots more equipment. And that is possible because the cost savings in having it made in Korea is passed on to you in the form of more equipment. If this exact car was to be made in France or EU, it would be selling for lot more. Edited December 3, 2010 by Cttan456
