So_nice 6th Gear March 23, 2011 Author Share March 23, 2011 i had a similiar encounter but not sure if it applies to your situation I bought a new air filter from forum and brought it to the workshop to change after changing, i realize that whenever my car went into D and stationary, it vibrate like a lorry Open my bonnet and found my air filter box shaking like mad! Thought going to explode liao Went straight back to workshop to diagnose and decided to buy another air filter from 1 of the shops there After changing then surprising the vibration stops! You guys can try changing the air filter. FYI the 1 i bought from forum has a denso wording on it and looks new. to my surprise, my vibrating problem is solved too! i bought a k&n drop-in and proceeded to change out the OEM filter. drove it around and the vibrating problem is gone. the car is now quiet and slient when idle. lolx ↡ Advertisement

Budgetdriver 1st Gear June 23, 2011 Share June 23, 2011 but seriously, i cannot understand why the air filter can cause this problem..really weird! Everything has a resonance frequency and the airbox resonance freq happens to be the same as engine idling frequency. That's why vibration is worst only when idling. but once we put neutral or off Air cond the engine speeds up past that frequency and then the vibration is significantly removed. By adding a slightly heavier knn filter the mass is increased which results in a slower resonance frequency than idling, and I believe that's why u dont see the vibration anymore. Picanto 3rd Gear August 14, 2011 Share August 14, 2011 Sir, can I ask you which workshop you change your absorbers? My 04 vios, 100k mileage, absorbers spoil liao. Autosaver quoted $265+GST to replace 2 rear absorbers. why not get the shock from stockists? then pay for the labour only. much more cheaper

Actually, my guess without looking at the car is that the at idle, your car runs on close-loop and the due to blockage, not enough air is going into the car and thus the vibration due to incorrect fuel to air mixture. WFME Neutral Newbie August 25, 2011 Share August 25, 2011 why not get the shock from stockists? then pay for the labour only. much more cheaper May or may not be the case pending on the WS and the price of spares they are getting. Don't forget, in most cases the WS will have a tradesmen discount and you still have spend money and time for petrol, to drive down and parking. Like I said, may or may not save so calculate properly and don't assume. Also, it is common practice for some workshop to package the spares with labor. It simply means that if they charge $200 for spares and $100 for labor, don't assume that they will charge $100 even if you bring your own spares. It's always good to check how much they charge for labor if you bring your own spares to avoid disagreements. Work with a WS you feel comfortable with and trust, after all, it's better to head to someone you feel is honest and meet your needs for the 10 years of your car's life rather than hunt around for best deal all the time and worry about being ripped off each time you push your ride in.
