VW Golf Owners

Honestly as much of a a VW fan i am, i do have to question ur bf's to change to a polo based on a perceived image problem with ur family.

Polo is about the same size as a Swift. Amenities IIRC are not too different especially for the Polo 1.2 so i think the only thing he's paying for is the badge. (both Polo models however are more tuneable in terms of power output than the non-turbocharged Swift if he's into modding)

In both ur shoes i will suggest waiting a bit until his finances are better off, then take a look at the Jetta. Bigger in size and great as a family car when both of u tie the knot

Dear all, apologies for riding on this thread as I couldn't start one of my own. My bf is thinking of changing his current ride to a polo.

There's the polo GTI and polo 1.2 TSI within his radar. (pardon me if I got the specs wrong).

We did the sums over the weekends and went for the test drive.

I know he prefers the GTI (which guy doesn't right??) but honestly, to realistically be able to pay afford the installments, I feel that the 1.2 version would suit his pocket better.

I too, like the GTI, but at what expense??

Any pros here, who have driven (or owned) any of the above models would be able to give me a comparison on the difference in running cost?

I'm driving a Mini One currently, would the running cost be pretty much similar ?

My bf is currently driving a 1.3L Suzuki Swift. I don't think the trade in will yield much. Part of the reason of him wanting to change to a VW is because of pressure I guess. All my family members drive continental cars individually, althoug he doesn't say so, I know that deep down, he wants to upgrade because he feels inferior.

I think a Swift is fine and I do enjoy the car as much as any other proud Swift owner does. again. Just a random thought? Would it be a good move if I dissuade him from his buying decision?

Any drivers here ever owned a swift, then a polo and if so, is there any difference in both car's drive experience??

Thanks peeps.

Thanks for the bits.... Well, I would not forsee a better financial situation within the next 3 years cause my bf just started working as as an assistant software engineer, I think the pay progression is pretty slow at the begining.

Well for the better too... let's hope the COE prices will not be sky high after 3-4 years.

I did mention to him, not to go full fledge just because of the percieved image... I love his swift as much I love him...

There will be things that are more important than cars.. Ask him if he think it is more important to save up the money for both of your future or is it more important to have a Polo gti now?

As for the drive, I am driving a 1.4 Polo.. So cannot offer much advise on 1.2 tsi or 1.4 gti.. Drive in 1.4NA is good enough.. It is a no frill car.. [laugh]
