Why does he assume tax revenue from petrol goes towards better public transport? More statistics please...

Most likely he can't buy a car and write into comfort himself.

I hate to...but have to agree with you.

Rubbish. COE controls car ownership. Having a 2nd layer to control ownership is useless.

Its like locking a door and putting a sign saying no entry. The sign is redundant.

Not every comment supporting a govt policy has to be from PAP supporters. However, no one in the right mind would want to support the 44c petrol tax if he/she ain't a PAP fanboi.

PAP not equal to government..that is a misconception..it just happens that they won majority previously and formed the government

We all agree that an increase in petrol price = overall increase in cost of livings.

agreed with u

The Aussies and the Kiwis pay slightly lower roadtax than us and their petrol prices are way cheaper, but I do not see any problems in their road conditions in any of their states.

The roadtax in Thailand is like 1/10 of what we pay (they go by kerb weight of the car). Are our roads 10x better than theirs?

sg have limited land area..enuff said

An ex-colleague of mine was late for work on his first day due to his read-ended another car in front. He was certified by company doctor: colour-blind to red.

This is amusing ... why does every comment supporting a govt policy have to be a PAP fanboy thing ?

My boss owns a Porsche Panarama and a S-class (with driver some more) and HE walks to work (about 15min) and takes the MRT whenever he feels like it. The logic - as long as its faster and more convenient, doesnt matter how you get there.

I own a car myself and take the train from time to time if its more convenient to take train...

Fact of problem in Malaysia is that things are relatively cheaper due to very high levels of subsidy for essential items. These subsidies make up some 20-30% of the budget (a massive amount by any count). These serve to make life "cheaper"for malaysians, but we do need to realize that they do nothing to help national development. Malaysia may well be better served in future should the money be spent on healthcare, education, infrastructure development, national security and the likes....

I am not a PAP fanboy. I am as irritated as everyone else about ridiculously increasing cost of living.

However, there is not easy solutions to the problem. Every suggestion of a solution will have reprecussions at a higher level. Eg. less petrol tax makes many people happy, reduces cost of operations for companies. But less petrol income make reduce the amount of tax inflow sufficiently to prevent maintainence work to be done on the roads. Is this what every

US pump price per litre is about S$1.3 while Singapore is well about S$2 for Ron 95. I drove quite extensively there, the roads were fine and I believe are still good.
