Hi all,

Does pre-employment checkup include blood test? What is the standard items for such check under the labour rules if applicable. Assume Employer paid for it. What if the employee has already done a check, what is the validity period of such check?

Please advise me.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

The check-up is paid by the company, hence the test reports are not directed to us... dunno where they keep.

Wht are the things to check during the pre-employment checkup depends on the company policy. Some company have blood test but some dont have. It is not compulsory to have blood test, but usually most company will include X-ray.

blood test and x ray usually standard.

the company usually don "honor" the ones u did yrself. Yr company buying insurance for you right? so they wont risk a 3rd party medical test not done by their own doctor to avoid and complication for claims if there are.

Regards,

I believe its generally subjected to the doctor's opinion. However, if the employment involves potential blood-related medical problem, it is best for pre-employment medical check-up to include blood-test, just in case the applicant already got some medical issues.

I am curious to know what is the reason for pre-employment check? Is it for insurance purpose or what else? What if a person has some existing medical problem, will the employer reject him?

Not all companies buying medical insurance for employee. They actually subsidize your insurance payment or on a co-payment basis. Your medical issue got nothing to do with the company. However, they do appoint a common insurance agent to deal with you needs, such as coverage, sum issured, payout and etc.

Imagine you're the boss, won't you want your employee to be at least ceritfied clinically fit for work? Some existing conditions may or may not be a concern depending on the kind of job. Even handicapped can work so not always an issue.

just went for mine yesterday.

Had urine test, X-Ray(Chest), hearing test, eyesight, BMI.

No blood test though..

So not a standard requirement to have blood test based on labour law.

Regards,

In all my years of working and changing companies, i was never asked to do blood tests for pre-employment checkups.

Yes, all the companies i worked for, require pre-employement checkups, but no blood tests.

And yes, pre-employment checkups are for staff medical insurance and also the HR must make sure you are fit to work. (it's common sense anyway).

Who will want to hire a sick chicken??

Some people are very smart. They will not resign from their current company, until they pass the new company's pre-employment check up, in case the new company rejects them, if they fail the pre-employment checkups.

depend on how much the company wants to pay for such test....

they can also pay thousands dollar to make sure you survive the next 30 years with them [laugh] [laugh]

True, no company wants to employ a worker with medical problems. But many times even the person is fit for employment after the pre-employment checkup, doesnt mean the person will be fit for the next 30 yrs lo. [:p]
