Body parts case: Filipina maid charged with murder of compatriot

 

 

SINGAPORE : A 29-year-old Filipina maid, Guen Garlejo Aguilar, has been charged with murder in the Orchard Road body parts case.

 

This comes just two days after the gruesome discovery of dismembered body parts at Orchard Road MRT and MacRitchie Reservoir.

 

If convicted, she faces the death penalty.

 

The murder suspect appeared briefly in a special Sunday court sitting.

 

Also in court were embassy officials like the Phillipine Labour Attache.

 

Aguilar was charged with committing murder between 10am on Wednesday and Friday afternoon at her employer's SunGlade condominium apartment in Serangoon Avenue 2.

 

The victim is another Filipina, 26-year-old Jane Parangan La Puebla, whose body parts were found at Orchard Road and MacRitchie Reservoir on Friday.

 

Clad in blue jeans, yellow t-shirt and blue sweater, Aguilar was somber, although she teared up occasionally as the single charge was read out to her by the interpreter in Tagalog.

 

The plump, long-haired woman has a husband and two children in the Philippines.

 

Aguilar has been remanded for a week in police custody for further investigations.

 

Her lawyer's request to see her during that time has been denied.

 

Magistrate Carolyn Woo explained, "The court must strike a balance between the right of the accused to legal advice and the duty of this State and its enforcement agencies to protect the public by carrying on investigations."

 

At the scene where some of the dismembered body parts had been discovered, shock waves continued to reverberate throughout the Filipino community.

 

"I never expected this thing to happen because all Filipinos here are like brothers and sisters -- we treat each other like brothers and sisters ... I am very shocked and I feel very sorry," one Filipino said.

 

"We feel nervous because we don't know what has happened," said another.

 

"We are following the news because we are eager to know the motive," a third Filipino said.

 

Aguilar's case will be heard again on September 16

If we analyse this case.Like other bro mentioned, should be done by 2 person if not they dated at the roof top. It is also impossible to carry a dead woman up a vertical ladder plus pushing open the cover plus going through the small opening.Even if 2 person job, I still think it is impossible to transport a woman up a manhole.Most likely is dating up there, dispute happen and kill her there and then.Won't be surprise if tomorrow news said she is pregnant.
